THE GREAT DICTATOR – ADOLF HITLER

Adolf Hitler, the German dictator that began the second world war with his invasion of Poland, that was
the sole cause of the holocaust, one of the saddest and most tragic pieces of human history, that was
hell bent on the destruction of anything in this world he deemed unnatural, from disabled children to
Siamese twins, delivers this revolutionary speech, which has been vicariously performed by the great
Charlie Chaplin.

The world that we live in was/is one of great turmoil and despair. Back when the adopted policy to
human life was survival of the fittest, one of Darwin’s principles, this speech was delivered. It spoke of a
different world. One where humans could stand together in solidary, one where love and mercy was
shown to all, blacks, Jews, gentiles and one where science was used for the development and
progression of humanity. To a cynic, these ideas would seem unrealistic. To an activist, they would seem
radical. But for the common folks, these ideas sparked a sense of hope. Hope is the most wondrous
emotion, a beacon to guide one through the dark.

Liberty, freedom and equality. These three words mean more to people than the privileged and
disillusioned ones who think they have it would ever understand. These are the fundamental rights of
any human. These are not to be bargained because only those who have lost it understand the value it
has to the human mind and soul. Hitler advocates for these three virtues, calls out to the soldiers to
stand tall and stand true, always.
