Guru and Vaishnava…… take Vaishnava as first. So 1st three offenses will come in
sequence. i.e. 1. Offense to Vaishnava (blaspheme devotees) 2. Offense to Hari and 3.
Offense to Guru.
1. The first and greatest offense is to blaspheme devotees who, through their attachment
to the Holy Name, spread its glories throughout the world. How will the Lord who is
manifest in the Holy Name ever tolerate such blasphemous activities?
2. Anyone who considers the all‐auspicious name, form, qualities, and pastimes of Lord
Vishnu to to be distinct from His person in the way that material signifiers are different
from the signified object, is acting in a way displeasing to the Holy Name.
Anyone who considers demigods such as Lord Shiva to be independent, or nondifferent
from Lord Vishnu, thinking such demigods’ names, qualities, forms or pastimes to be
equal to Vishnu’s, is committing the second offense to the Holy Name.
3. The third offense, called guror avajyä, is to consider the spiritual master, who knows the
truth of the Holy Name, to be an ordinary man of the world and so to be envious of him.
Now where are the glories of all three? In Scriptures. So 4. Offense to scriptures
4. The fourth offense (sruti‐sästra‐nindä) is to blaspheme the scriptures such as the Vedas
and the Vaishnava Puranas.
Now in scriptures what kind of instruction is given in regards to “religion or dharma of this
kaliyuga”? Nama. So now the next 6 offenses are related to Nama.
At first the people (for all) don’t have trust on the “name”. How is it possible that one name
can destroy as much sins as one can’t perform them in one life? This is called artha‐vada.
5. The fifth offense (artha‐väda) is to consider the glory of the Holy Name an
exaggeration.
Next, the mayavadi’s point of view towards Nama, that name is kalpanika (imaginary). Their
position is lower than the person who thinks that the glory of name is exaggerated.
Mayavadi says that there is no person with the name Narayana. There is no Krsna, no
Narayana….the name is just imaginary.
6. The sixth offense is to consider the glories of the holy name of the Lord to be
imaginary.
Below to the level of mayavadis…..there is category of people who believes do name or do
sacrifice or make donation….it is one and the same thing.
7. To erroneously think that chanting the Holy Name is in any way equal to any other
kind of religious activity, vow of renunciation, sacrificial ritual or auspicious mundane
performance
Below this another category of people who make sins on the strength of name.

8. One who thinks that he may commit sins on the strength of the Hare Krishna mantra’s
power to overcome all sinful reactions is such a great offender that he cannot be purified by
any amount of regulative activities, meditation, withdrawal of the senses from their objects,
concentration, or any other yoga practice.
To tell glories of name to faithless people.
9. To preach the glories of the most auspicious Holy Name to someone who has no faith,
who is uninterested, or who is not listening.
Even after hearing so much glories of name, to keep the mood of ‘me’ and ‘mine’.
10. One who has heard the glories of the Lord’s holy name but develops no appreciation for
it and continues to be absorbed in thinking of himself and his possessions is also an offender
to the Holy Name.
