Narrative Report

Group 4
First Trial
The trial was done in a member’s house on March 7, 2023. On 7 AM, the grocery
was done to accumulate the ingredients needed for the creation of the product , before
arriving at the member’s place. The members first started cooking rice by a cup of
glutinous rice and plain rice each. After the rice has been cooked, we then seasoned the
rice with salt and pepper and let it cooled down before use. The measurement used for
the seasoning is three-fourths (¾) teaspoons. As we wait for the rice to cool down, the
cans of tuna to be used for the filling of the kanin balls are drained and the oil is set
aside. In every two cans of tuna used, there will be one where two spoons of mayonnaise
that is mixed with the tuna and another that isn’t. This is to hopefully bring a creamy
mixture for the filling. The amount of time that was required for the process of draining
the tuna took longer as there was no strainer at the time of its usage. The hands of the
members are then wet with olive oil and used to shape the kanin balls. First, the process
of shaping the kanin balls is by coating the measuring cups with oil and the ratios of
one-fourths (¼) cup the seasoned rice and one-half (½) cup of tuna. Second, rice balls
are then coated with two (2) beaten chicken eggs and bread crumbs. The balls are then
deep fried until golden using a mixture of oil from the tuna and olive oil.

The ingredients used for the kanin balls are of the following:
1. Two (2) Century Tuna, 180 grams. Individual price is forty-nine (49) pesos.
2. Raw, glutinous rice, one-half (½) kilograms. Price is thirty-five (35) pesos.
3. Raw, long-grain rice, ½ kilograms. Price is twenty-four (24) pesos.
4. All-purpose seasoning. Cost is five (5) pesos.
5. Oil. Cost is thirty (30) pesos.
6. Five (5) Whole, raw egg. Individual price is seven (7) pesos and twenty (20) cents.
7. Plain, breadcrumbs. Cost twenty-five (25) pesos.
8. Mayonnaise. Cost is twenty (20) pesos.

There were fourteen (14) pieces of kanin balls done within the trial, however two
(2) is considered a failure. One is because of too much filling put in the ball caused it to
break from its original shape, the other is flattened. So, to consider, there were only
twelve (12) balls. With 6, no mayonnaise, and another six with.

The price for the ingredients cost two hundred seventy-seven (277) pesos.
Ingredients used within the first trial are: one (1) cup of plain rice cost five (5) pesos,
one (1) cup of glutinous rice cost seven (7) pesos, two (2) century tuna of a hundred
eighty (180) grams cost is ninety=eight (98) pesos, two (2) eggs cost is sixtee n (16) pesos,
eighty (80) grams of bread crumbs cost is twenty-five (25) pesos, two (2) tablespoons of
mayonnaise cost is eight (8) pesos, oil cost is thirty (30) pesos, and salt and pepper cost
five (5) pesos. Estimated by our assistant leader, the overall price is a hundred and
ninety-four (194) pesos whereas per piece would cost fourteen (14) pesos. There is a
planned second trial as the coat of the filling is rather bland.
