A Way of Being
A way of being addresses the counselor's presence in the room
with the client. Who the counselor is, the degree of empathy ex-
pressed, the values the counselor demonstrates, the boundaries
that are set, and the importance ascribed to the relationship are
all part of a way of being. In other words, each theory proposes
how the counselor should "be" with a client to establish an atmo-
sphere in which change can occur.
