Ellie Dolman Cardigan
The Ellie Dolman Cardigan is a relaxed fit, gender-neutral dolman style cardigan
in sizes NB-12. With no closures, it is easy for little ones to put on and take off
on their own, and it has a wide range of uses! Choose long sleeves for a cozy
sweater (extra snuggle points if you use French Terry!) or short sleeves for a
comfy and stylish outfit accent. There are pockets to keep hands warm or store
all of those precious little treasures, or you can skip the pockets for a super
quick and simple sew. Whether you need a beautiful but comfortable cover-up
to complete an outfit for a formal occasion, or a stack of simple and unique
sweaters for your child’s back-to-school wardrobe, the Ellie Dolman Cardi is
the perfect pattern to take you from summer into chilly weather and back around
to spring!

How to use this pattern

Elliedactyl patterns are designed for printing any individual size by leaving one
size layer selected. The “Sew Quick” guide gives experienced sewists a quick
glance at assembly steps and allows for beginners to print an individual page to
keep on hand with the pattern pieces. Measurements for pocket binding, sleeve
cuffs, and edging band are printed directly on the pattern pieces. Additionally,
pattern pieces for waistband options are included on the tiling. Pattern follows a
1/4” seam allowance for sergers, unless otherwise noted.

Sewing With Knit Fabrics

Use a ball point needle when working with knit fabrics. Use a medium stitch
length.

To prevent curling, iron the knit on low heat & use spray starch.

Prewash all knit fabrics prior to sewing. This is most important when sewing a
pattern that uses multiple knit fabrics. Knit fabrics can shrink significantly and at
different rates; without prewashing, your finished garment could become
misshapen after the first wash.

Do not pull the fabric through the machine while serging or sewing. Using
stretch thread in the upper and lower looper on a serger, and bobbin of a
sewing machine, will help provide elasticity to your garment and prevent seams
from popping. Use a mid-length stretch stitch or zig-zag stitch when top-
stitching or hemming with a sewing machine.
