Elementary Homework Policy


Expectations Homework may only be assigned Monday to Friday, with no compulsory homework on weekends and holidays. However, children who areengagedinhomeworkorresearchtasks have thefreedomtoworkonweekendsandholidays. Homework may be assigned on an individual basisinan eort to directly support astudent's classroom learning. Students within grades and classes mayreceivedierentamountsandtypes ofhomeworkonacasebycasebasis. Japanese language homework will be assigned ononenightperweek.Thenightwillbeagreed towiththehomeroomteachers,ona nightwhen no other homework will be assigned. Children whoaretaking JapaneseLanguageatthena?ve ornearna?velevelmayhaveamoredemanding homework schedule,asdeveloping literacy skills mayrequirerepe??veprac?ce. Incaseof aninability toaVendschool,children will not be expected to complete missed homework. In a developmental and posi?ve approach to fostering lifelonglearners,homeworktasksmay be assigned by teachers. If assigned, it will be basedon theguidelineof 10 minutespernight, increasing each year by increments of ten minutes. Reading isnot consideredpart of this ?mealloca?on. Time Allocation
