many as we want. It is much cheaper and data is access randomly from magnetic
disks which saves a lot of time. Disk is better suited to store student information
than tape. The student information required all the time which can be from any

Q- Disk Operating System (DOS) and Microsoft Windows are two prominent operating
systems. Describe any FOUR features of Microsoft Windows that are not available in DOS.
A- DOS or Disk Operating Systems are operating systems that were most
commonly found in PCs and were popular in past. Windows is a range of graphical
interface operating systems that are developed and sold by Microsoft.
Windows uses images, icons and text in their interface. The full text command
input in DOS required users to input commands and work on the computer using
text codes; making it harder to understand for first-time users or less tech savvy
people
DOS also offered less storage space compared to Windows. The highest storage
space that DOS offered came around 2 gigabyte, while the latest Windows offers
storage space in terabytes. Windows can also accommodate much larger hard
drives, while DOS cannot due to its dependence on FAT16 file system.
DOS used a text based interface that required text and codes to operate. Text is
used as the basic input system commands. While windows uses a mouse for all
operating system input. There are many other input devices used in Windows
unlike DOS.
Many new features offered by windows which are achieved by using multiple
software’s. Internet access, emailing, e-commerce is made possible using windows
operating system which was never possible in DOS. Software designing also much
simpler in windows based software which was quiet complicated in Dos based
softwares.
