A Computer is a machine that takes information to do work or make changes to the data to make new
information. Examples of early computers are the astrolabe and the abacus. But modern computers are
different as they are very powerful machine and make billions of calculations every second. The inventor of
the ‘modern’ computer was Charles Babbage.
A computer is divided into two parts, hardware and software. Hardware is the physical parts, e.g. keyboard,
mouse, screen, tower and the circuits inside it. Software is the computer programs or instructions. The
software uses the computer the hardware, when the user gives it instructions and changes it into output.
Computer programs are designed by their programmers. Programmers are written objectives –C. These
programming languages are more like the language you talk and write with every day.
Computers are useful and perform many jobs such as controlling traffic lights, launching satellites, security
systems, digital televisions and radios. They can also be used for listening music, reading and writing. Some
ways of controlling a computer are through a keyboard, mouse, buttons, touch screen and some can also
be controlled with voice commands, gestures and fingerprints.
