In Matthew 19:21-24, Jesus tells a man to sell his assets if he wants to be perfect.

Jesus ends by
saying that it will be much harder for the rich man to enter heaven since he is so connected to his
assets. One meaning behind Jesus’ speech is that the road to Heaven isn’t easy, and by working
towards good without reward, the path up to Heaven will be much easier for you. I also interpreted
this passage as Jesus implying that rewards are dangerous because one may become dependent on
them. The dependency on rewards will only create obstacles to your journey into Heaven, so Jesus
tells the man to sell all of his assets in order to rid himself of that dependency.
