The inventor of the electric welding machine is Prof. Elihu Thomson. He
was born in Manchester, England which later followed his parents immigrating to the United States. He demonstrated this discovery in 1877.
He was also one of the founders of a company called the Thomson-
Houston Electric Company, which later became part of the GeneralElectric Company, where he served as head of the Electricity History of Welding and its Types
Since about 5000 years ago, humans have been able to
do welding. The welding process is done by connecting metals by heating two pieces of metal until it reaches the melting point of the metal. Then the two metals will be stacked and then hammered to form a strong bond. One piece of evidence found in the Valley of the Kingdom in 1922 indicated that King Tutankhamen’s coffin was estimated to have been made around 1360 BC by involving a welding process.
The fire to heat the metal was obtained from burning
wood or charcoal, this technique is called the forging welding technique. But this kind of method will certainly take a lot of time and is very impractical. For centuries, wrought welding was used as the primary process for joining metals without much developmen.
