who, in turn, officially elect the president.

opponent but he had a majority of electors.

The Founding Fathers / The Framers (of the Constitution) drew inspiration from Montesquieu for the
separtation for the separation of powers and they added a system of checks and balances such as,
for example, the presidential veto or the impeachment (process)

Since the year 2000, there were 4 US presidents, two Democrats and two Republicans, but they have
all been men, including the Vice-Presidents. There have been several female candidates on the
presidential ticket and now Kamala Harris is the first female vice-president of US.

1968 – 1976 : Ronald Reagan, replaced by Gerard Ford (Rep)
