Security information 1
Siemens provides products and solutions with industrial security functions that support the
secure operation of plants, systems, machines, and networks.
In order to protect plants, systems, machines and networks against cyber threats, it is necessary
to implement – and continuously maintain – a holistic, state-of-the-art industrial security
concept. Siemens’ products and solutions form one element of such a concept.
Customers are responsible for preventing unauthorized access to their plants, systems,
machines and networks. These systems, machines and components should only be connected
to the enterprise network or the Internet if and only to the extent necessary and with appropriate
security measures (firewalls and/or network segmentation) in place.
You can find more information on protective measures in the area of industrial security by
visiting:
https://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity.
Siemens’ products and solutions undergo continuous development to make them more secure.
Siemens strongly recommends performing product updates as soon as they are available and
using only the latest product versions. Use of product versions that are no longer supported, and
failure to apply latest updates may increase customer’s exposure to cyber threats.

5.5 Explanation of parameters

5.5.1 Diagnostics Missing supply voltage L+

Defines whether a diagnostic interrupt is generated when the supply voltage L+ is missing or is
too low.
The supply voltage is generated by the Ex power module. Other internal defects can be detected
and reported via the additional diagnostics for the Ex I/O module.

5.5.2 Diagnostics: Short-circuit

Defines whether a diagnostic interrupt is generated when a short-circuit occurs between the
leads of the sensor.
You can use the short-circuit diagnostics with the following setting of the sensor:
• NAMUR sensor

5.5.3 Diagnostics: Wire break

Specifies whether a diagnostic interrupt is generated when the wire break test current is
undershot.
You can use the wire break diagnostics with the following setting of the sensor:
• NAMUR sensor
• Single contact with 10 kΩ

5.5.5 Sensor type

Specifies the type of sensor to be connected for the channel. The module supports the following
sensor types:
• NAMUR sensor according to IEC 60947-5-6
• Single contact, unconnected
• Single contact, connected with 10 kΩ

5.5.6 Pulse stretching

Pulse stretching
Pulse stretching is a function for changing a digital input signal. A pulse on a digital input is
extended to at least the configured length. If the input pulse is already longer than the
configured length, the pulse is not changed.
If hardware interrupts are supported, the pulse-stretched signal is the signal that triggers a
hardware interrupt.
The pulse-stretched signal is the input signal for flutter monitoring.

Pulse stretching affects active flutter monitoring

If you configure pulse stretching for an input channel, it also affects flutter monitoring enabled
for this channel. The "pulse-stretched" signal is the input signal for flutter monitoring. You
therefore need to adapt the parameter settings of pulse stretching and flutter monitoring to
each other. You can adapt the functions to your process by selecting the appropriate values for
the parameters.

5.5.7 Digital input

Specifies whether or not the input signal is to be inverted.
You can use the parameter for the following sensor types:
• NAMUR sensor
• Single contact, unconnected
• Single contact with 10 kΩ

5.5.8 Flutter monitoring

Specifies whether the input signal is to be monitored for flutter errors. Flutter monitoring is
enabled if the number is other than 0. The number of tolerated signal changes within the
configured time is monitored (monitoring window).

5.5.9 Monitoring window

Specifies a time period for monitoring of the input signal (monitoring window). The configured
time is started with the first signal change of the input signal. You can set the duration for each
channel.

5.5.10 Hardware interrupt rising edge

Specifies whether a rising edge at the digital input generates a hardware interrupt.

5.5.11 Hardware interrupt falling edge

Specifies whether a falling edge at the digital input generates a hardware interrupt.

5.5.12 Operating mode

5.5.19 Potential group

A potential group consists of a group of directly adjacent Ex I/O modules within a station of the
distributed I/O (IO device), which are supplied via a common Ex power module.
A potential group begins with an Ex power module, via which the required supply voltage for all
Ex I/O modules of the potential group is supplied. The Ex power module interrupts the self-
assembling voltage buses to the left neighbor.
The Ex I/O modules take the potential of the self-assembling voltage buses from the left
neighbor.
A potential group ends with the Ex BaseUnit, which follows an Ex power module or a server
module in the station configuration.
You can find additional information on the configuration of the potential group in the system
manual Distributed I/O System; ET 200SP and ET 200SP HA, Modules for Hazardous Areas.

5.6 Flutter monitoring function

Description
Flutter monitoring is a process control function for digital input signals. If flutter monitoring is
active, monitoring of the number of signal changes within a time period is performed for a
digital input. This period is referred to as the monitoring window. If an unusually high number
of signal changes occur in the monitoring window, it is a sign that the sensors are faulty or that
there are instabilities from a process engineering viewpoint. A diagnostic interrupt can be
enabled for this status.

Flutter monitoring parameters

The following parameters must be set for using flutter monitoring:
• Flutter monitoring (Page 28)
• Monitoring window (Page 28)
• Diagnostics: Flutter error (Page 26)

Ex-DI 4xNAMUR
30 Equipment Manual, 05/2017, A5E50743048-AA

5.6 Flutter monitoring function

Detecting a flutter error

Requirements:
• Error-free detection of the input signal.
• The monitoring of the input signal is enabled if a value other than 0 is set for the "Flutter
monitoring Number of signal changes" parameter.
Monitoring:
• The monitoring window is started the first time the signal changes.
If the number of detected signal changes is lower than the configured number of signal
changes within the monitoring window, the signal is error-free with regard to the detection
of a flutter error.
• The monitoring window and counting of the signal changes is automatically restarted on the
next signal change.

Diagnostics: Encoder signal flutters

The diagnostics "Sensor signal flutters" applies to a digital input as soon as the following occurs:
The configured number of signal changes is exceeded within the monitoring window.
Responses on detection of a flutter error:
• The current signal state is entered in the process image and the value status of the signal is
set to invalid (QI = 0).
• When flutter error diagnostics is enabled:
The flutter error diagnostics information is entered and an incoming diagnostic interrupt
"Sensor signal flutters" - "INCOMING" is generated.

Resetting a flutter error

Note
Active flutter monitoring is reset if there is an error in the input signal (value status QI = 0).

If after a flutter error no further flutter of the input signal is detected within three monitoring
windows:
• The current signal state is entered in the process image.
• The value status of the signal is set to valid (QI = 1).
• The diagnostic information Flutter error is deleted.
• The diagnostic interrupt "Sensor signal flutters" - "OUTGOING" is generated.

5.7 Module-internal Shared Input (MSI)

The function enables several IO controllers to access the input data of the I/O module.
• With MSI, the input data of the I/O module (the basic submodule) is copied to up to three
further MSI submodules.
All process values of the I/O module are thus present with identical input values in all
submodules.
• Each of the four submodules can be assigned to an IO controller, whereby these can be
different or identical IO controllers.
• IO controllers have read-only access to the data of each submodule
• Only the basic submodule is configured and can return diagnostic interrupts and hardware
interrupts.
MSI submodules are not configurable and do not return interrupts.
The following figure shows a digital input module with the basic submodule and three MSI
submodules. Each submodule is assigned to an IO controller. The diagnostics and parameter
assignment of the digital input module is possible via the basic submodule from the IO
controller 1.

6.2.4 Status bit STS_DQ

Comparison and status bit STS_DQ

You can specify a value within the counting range for which a comparison with the counter
reading is carried out.
The STS_DQ status bit is activated directly when you configure the comparison value. You can
change the comparison value at any time.
You can configure the following behavior for the comparison result:
• Evaluation of the comparison value: "Set output DQ" parameter
For the settings, see the following table "Configure evaluation of the comparison value"
• Generate a hardware interrupt when the STS_DQ status bit changes from 0 to 1.

Configure evaluation of the comparison value

With the "Set output DQ" parameter, you determine when the STS_DQ status bit is set.
The parameter affects the status bit STS_DQ. You can set up the parameter channel-specifically

6.3 Frequency measurement

In "Frequency measurement" mode, the function works in parallel to the digital input. The
functions of the digital input remain available.

Operating principle in "Frequency measurement" mode

The I/O module determines the frequency applied in Hz. The frequency value is provided in the
unit Hz in REAL format. You can read the frequency value in the feedback interface.
• The measuring window is 2 seconds long. Pulses are counted within the measuring window
and a new frequency value is determined on expiry of a measuring window.
• With frequencies less than 0.5 Hz, the measuring window is increased cyclically and the
frequency value is adjusted accordingly. A new frequency value is formed on arrival of a new
pulse.
• Frequencies down to minimum 0.1 Hz are measured.

Cycle time
The cycle time describes the time interval in which the NAMUR input signals are acquired and the
process values of the digital inputs (status of inputs and QI) are formed as a result.
The cycle time of the I/O module is 2 ms.
The cycle time has no influence on the formation of the counter values or the frequency values.

Minimum pulse length

In order for a pulse or an edge transition of the NAMUR inputs to be reliably detected by the I/O
module, the signal status must be active for at least the duration of the minimum pulse length.
Minimum pulse length = Input delay + cycle time
Each edge transition is detected after a delay of no more than the specified minimum pulse
length.

Drivers, parameters, diagnostics messages and
address space A
A.1 Concept of the driver and diagnostics blocks

Use with PCS 7

The following information shows you advantages of using the process control system. In the
process control system, the engineering system automatically handles many important
parameter assignments and interconnections of modules.
If you want to use the Ex I/O outside these process control systems, refer to the following
sections:
• Parameter assignment and structure of the module and channel parameters (Page 54)
• Address space (Page 68)

Tasks of the driver and diagnostics blocks (driver blocks)

In process control systems, certain demands are placed on the diagnostics/signal processing.
This includes the monitoring of modules, IO devices and PROFINET IO systems for malfunctions
and failures.
To make this possible, blocks are provided in the libraries of the engineering system which
implement the interface to the hardware, including test functionality.
These blocks perform two basic tasks:
• They provide signals from the process to the AS for further processing.
• They monitor modules, IO devices and PROFINET IO system for failure.
When the process signals are read in, these blocks access the process image input (or process
image partition) (PII).
When the process signals are output, these blocks access the process image output (or process
image partition) (PIQ).

Concept
The concept of the driver and diagnostic blocks at the process control systems is characterized
by the following:
• The separation between user data processing (CHANNEL blocks) and diagnostics data
processing (MODULE blocks)
• The symbolic addressing of the I/O signals
• The automatic generation of the MODULE blocks by CFC

Ex-DI 4xNAMUR
Equipment Manual, 05/2017, A5E50743048-AA 53
Drivers, parameters, diagnostics messages and address space
A.2 Parameter assignment and structure of the module and channel parameters

This block concept supports all modules from the list of approved modules.
When new Siemens or non-Siemens module types are integrated, the meta-knowledge for the
driver generator can be extended by additional XML files (object and action lists).

Note
Note the following:
• The library with the driver blocks has to installed using the Setup program on the PC. This is
the only method of ensuring that the meta-knowledge required for the driver generator is
available. You must not copy the library from another computer.
• You can also use driver blocks from another library (for example, your own blocks from your
own library). You can specify this additional library in the "Generate module drivers" dialog
box. The driver generator then searches for the block to be imported in the library specified
here. If the block is not found here, it is searched for in the library specified in the control file
(XML file).
• If the S7 program contains a signal-processing block, but none from one of the engineering
system libraries, the following is required:
You must specify the version of the driver library from which the driver blocks are to be
imported in the "Generate module drivers" dialog box.

Time-optimized processing
To enable time-optimized processing during runtime, the organization blocks for error handling
(for example, OB85, OB86) are automatically divided into runtime groups and the driver blocks
are integrated in the corresponding runtime groups.
If an error occurs, the SUBNET block, for example, activates the relevant runtime group. The
RACK block or MODULE block detects the error, evaluates it and sends a process control message
to the operator control and monitoring system.
The diagnostics information of the module block (OMODE_xx output) is also transferred to the
corresponding CHANNEL block (MODE input). If required, this information can be displayed in
a process picture via a block that can be controlled and observed in the operator control and
monitoring system or a user block (color change of the measured value or flashing display, etc.).

A.2 Parameter assignment and structure of the module and channel

parameters

A.2.1 Parameter assignment

Parameter assignment in the user program

You can reconfigure individual channels of the module in RUN without this having an effect on
the other channels.

A.2 Parameter assignment and structure of the module and channel parameters

Changing parameters in RUN

The parameters are only transferred to the I/O module via data record 128 with the "WRREC"
instruction. The parameters set via the configuration are not changed in the CPU in this case, i.e.
after startup the parameters set in the CPU are valid again.

STATUS output parameter

If errors occur when transferring parameters with the "WRREC" instruction, the module
continues operation with the previous parameter assignment. The STATUS output parameter
contains a corresponding error code.
The STATUS output parameter is 4 bytes long and is configured as followed:
• Byte1: Function_Num, general error code
• Byte2: Error_Decode, location of the error code
• Byte3: Error_Code_1, error code
• Byte4: Error_Code_2, manufacturer-specific extension of the error code
Module-specific errors are displayed via Error_Decode = 0x80 and Error_Code_1 / Error_Code_2.

Drivers, parameters, diagnostics messages and address space
A.2 Parameter assignment and structure of the module and channel parameters

If the I/O module is operated in digital mode with "Counter"/"Frequency measurement" modes,
there are two parameter structures for the channel parameter blocks:
• For channels 0 and 1, each channel parameter block contains the channel parameters for the
digital input with "Counter"/"Frequency measurement" modes (16 bytes).
Start byte x = 8 + 16 * channel number; with channel number 0 to 1
• For channels 2 and 3, each channel parameter block contains the channel parameters for the
digital input (6 bytes).
Start byte x = 42 + 6 * (channel number -2); with channel number 2 to 3

Diagnostic messages
A diagnostic message is output for each enabled diagnostic event, and the DIAG LED on the
module flashes red.
The diagnostic messages can be read in the diagnostic buffer of the CPU.

• A module message is assigned to all channels.
• A channel-specific message is assigned to one channel only, the other channels are not
affected.
The diagnostic result is indicated by the corresponding channel fault LED.

A.2.4 Hardware interrupts

Evaluating digital input hardware interrupts

The I/O module generates a hardware interrupt depending on the digital input signal when the
following events occur:
• At a rising edge (signal change from 0 to 1)
• At a falling edge (signal change from 1 to 0)
• When a comparison value is exceeded (only during counting)
The module digital input (channel) that has triggered the hardware interrupt is entered in
variable "OB40_POINT_ADDR" in the start information of OB40. The following figure shows the
assignment to the bits of the local data double word 8.

A.3.5 Evaluating the value status

The following applies in the configurations with evaluation of the value status:
• There is a bit value status (QI) for each digital input in the input address space.
• Counting / frequency measurement is independent of the value status
Notes for configuration using a GSD/GSDML file (Page 21)

Ex-DI 4xNAMUR
Equipment Manual, 05/2017, A5E50743048-AA 73
Drivers, parameters, diagnostics messages and address space
A.3 Address space

Evaluating the value status

Irrespective of the diagnostics enables, each value status (each QI bit) provides information on
the validity of the corresponding process value.
• Value status = 1: Process value ok, acquired/output correctly, "good"
• Value status = 0: Process value not OK, acquired/output incorrectly or channel disabled, "bad"
Setting the value status
• Basically, the value status is set to "good" if the digital value can be detected without error.
• The value status is set to "bad" in the following cases:
– The digital value cannot be detected due to an error.
Example of the error: Bad wiring
– The digital input is disabled.
