Security information 1
Siemens provides products and solutions with industrial security functions that support the
secure operation of plants, systems, machines, and networks.
In order to protect plants, systems, machines and networks against cyber threats, it is necessary
to implement – and continuously maintain – a holistic, state-of-the-art industrial security
concept. Siemens’ products and solutions form one element of such a concept.
Customers are responsible for preventing unauthorized access to their plants, systems,
machines and networks. These systems, machines and components should only be connected
to the enterprise network or the Internet if and only to the extent necessary and with appropriate
security measures (firewalls and/or network segmentation) in place.
You can find more information on protective measures in the area of industrial security by
visiting:
https://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity.
Siemens’ products and solutions undergo continuous development to make them more secure.
Siemens strongly recommends performing product updates as soon as they are available and
using only the latest product versions. Use of product versions that are no longer supported, and
failure to apply latest updates may increase customer’s exposure to cyber threats.
To stay informed about product updates, subscribe to the Siemens Industrial Security RSS Feed

Supply voltage
The supply voltage L+/2M is generated and monitored by the Ex power module. The Ex I/O
module receives its supply voltage L+ via the power bus. Further monitoring of the supply
voltage is performed in the Ex I/O module. During parameter assignment, you can specify
whether a diagnostic message is to be output in the event of failure of the supply voltage.
Firmware update
The supply voltage L+ must be available on the Ex I/O module at the start of firmware updates
and during the update.

5.5 Explanation of parameters
Pulse stretching
Pulse stretching is a function for changing a digital input signal. A pulse on a digital input is
extended to at least the configured length. If the input pulse is already longer than the
configured length, the pulse is not changed.
If hardware interrupts are supported, the pulse-stretched signal is the signal that triggers a
hardware interrupt.
The pulse-stretched signal is the input signal for flutter monitoring.

Description
Flutter monitoring is a process control function for digital input signals. If flutter monitoring is
active, monitoring of the number of signal changes within a time period is performed for a
digital input. This period is referred to as the monitoring window. If an unusually high number
of signal changes occur in the monitoring window, it is a sign that the sensors are faulty or that
there are instabilities from a process engineering viewpoint. A diagnostic interrupt can be
enabled for this status.

5.6 Flutter monitoring function
Note
Active flutter monitoring is reset if there is an error in the input signal (value status QI = 0).
If after a flutter error no further flutter of the input signal is detected within three monitoring
windows:
• The current signal state is entered in the process image.
• The value status of the signal is set to valid (QI = 1).
• The diagnostic information Flutter error is deleted.
• The diagnostic interrupt "Sensor signal flutters" - "OUTGOING" is generated.

6.2 Counters
Introduction
You can specify the value from which counting is continued for a digital input parameterized as
a counter.
Load counter
You can specify the load value for counting via the user program:
• Load value
• LD_SLOT: Apply load value with rising edge of LD_SLOT as current count value
• SW_GATE: 0 = Stop counter / 1 = Counter enabled (active)
The following figure shows the change of the count value with control via the user program (load
value) and the effects on the comparison event.

Diagnostic messages
The I/O module generates a diagnostic message at the following events:
• Short-circuit (NAMUR sensors only)
• Channel/component temporarily unavailable
• Wire break (NAMUR sensor or single contact, connected with 10 kΩ)
• Parameter assignment error
• Supply voltage missing
• Hardware interrupt lost
• Module is faulty
• Encoder signal flutters
• Retentive memory in the BaseUnit is defective.
• Invalid BaseUnit
Note
A pending "Module is defective" diagnostics is not deleted by the module until a restart.
Maintenance messages
The I/O module generates a maintenance message when the following events occur:
• Retentive memory in the BaseUnit is defective.

Cycle time
The cycle time describes the time interval in which the NAMUR input signals are acquired and the
process values of the digital inputs (status of inputs and QI) are formed as a result.
The cycle time of the I/O module is 2 ms.
The cycle time has no influence on the formation of the counter values or the frequency values.

Drivers, parameters, diagnostics messages and
address space A
A.1 Concept of the driver and diagnostics blocks
Concept
The concept of the driver and diagnostic blocks at the process control systems is characterized
by the following:
• The separation between user data processing (CHANNEL blocks) and diagnostics data
processing (MODULE blocks)
• The symbolic addressing of the I/O signals
• The automatic generation of the MODULE blocks by CFC
Ex-DI 4xNAMUR
Equipment Manual, 05/2017, A5E50743048-AA 53
Drivers, parameters, diagnostics messages and address space
A.2 Parameter assignment and structure of the module and channel parameters
This block concept supports all modules from the list of approved modules.
When new Siemens or non-Siemens module types are integrated, the meta-knowledge for the
driver generator can be extended by additional XML files (object and action lists).
Note
Note the following:
• The library with the driver blocks has to installed using the Setup program on the PC. This is
the only method of ensuring that the meta-knowledge required for the driver generator is
available. You must not copy the library from another computer.
• You can also use driver blocks from another library (for example, your own blocks from your
own library). You can specify this additional library in the "Generate module drivers" dialog
box. The driver generator then searches for the block to be imported in the library specified
here. If the block is not found here, it is searched for in the library specified in the control file
(XML file).
• If the S7 program contains a signal-processing block, but none from one of the engineering
system libraries, the following is required:
You must specify the version of the driver library from which the driver blocks are to be
imported in the "Generate module drivers" dialog box.
Time-optimized processing
To enable time-optimized processing during runtime, the organization blocks for error handling
(for example, OB85, OB86) are automatically divided into runtime groups and the driver blocks
are integrated in the corresponding runtime groups.
If an error occurs, the SUBNET block, for example, activates the relevant runtime group. The
RACK block or MODULE block detects the error, evaluates it and sends a process control message
to the operator control and monitoring system.
The diagnostics information of the module block (OMODE_xx output) is also transferred to the
corresponding CHANNEL block (MODE input). If required, this information can be displayed in
a process picture via a block that can be controlled and observed in the operator control and
monitoring system or a user block (color change of the measured value or flashing display, etc.).

A.2 Parameter assignment and structure of the module and channel parameters
Valid parameters
Only the values specified in the following are permitted. Values that are not listed are rejected
by the module.
Every parameter data record is checked by the module. If the module detects an incorrect
parameter, the entire data record is rejected and the parameters of the module remain
unchanged.
A.2.2 Parameter assignment and structure of the module and channel parameters
The data record contains the module parameters as well as the channel or technology
parameters of the 4 channels.
Main components of the data record:
• Header information (module), module parameters, header information (channel)
• Channel parameters (channel or technology parameters)
The channel or technology parameters are divided into parameters that affect or set the
actual signal acquisition and diagnostics enables.

If the I/O module is operated in digital mode with "Counter"/"Frequency measurement" modes,
there are two parameter structures for the channel parameter blocks:
• For channels 0 and 1, each channel parameter block contains the channel parameters for the
digital input with "Counter"/"Frequency measurement" modes (16 bytes).
Start byte x = 8 + 16 * channel number; with channel number 0 to 1
• For channels 2 and 3, each channel parameter block contains the channel parameters for the
digital input (6 bytes).
Start byte x = 42 + 6 * (channel number -2); with channel number 2 to 3

Action Meaning
LD_ERROR Error in the control byte of the control interface or loading with a load value that is greater than the count
high limit.
LD_STS_SLOT A status change of LD_STS_SLOT shows that a valid load request (LD_SLOT) has been detected and exe‐
cuted. The action NOP does not result in a status change. A valid LD_SLOT with an invalid load value does
not result in toggling (status change of LD_STS_SLOT), but in an LD_ERROR.
STS_M_INTERVAL Status of the frequency value: (0 = frequency value is invalid; 1 = frequency value is valid).
STS_SW_GATE Status of the SW_GATE mirrored
STS_GATE Status of the internal gate (0 = gate closed, 1 = gate open)
STS_DQ Logic for the comparison result DQ from the parameters
Output area
The table shows the allocation of the address space of the control interface. You will find an
explanation of the parameters in the following table.

Control bytes for load value: n = channel number (0 to 1; example: Load value channel 1= byte (0 +1*5) = double word, starts
from Byte 5
2)
Control byte counter control: n = channel number (0 to 1; example channel 1= Byte (4 +1*5) = Byte 9
