Research Assignment Plus Simulation:


Keeping in view the characteristics of the US Constitution and the constitutional concepts
and institutions that you have studied, write a research paper addressing all of the following
questions.
a) As Democrats draft and present a bill in the House of Representatives about Gun
Control. What legislative opposition could the Republicans put up at this stage?
b) Identify the points of contention/debate that could be presented by both the
Democrats and Republicans.
c) Liaise for bi-partisan agreement in the house as the majority of Republicans
strongly oppose this bill. What could make republicans agree to democrats on this?
d) Present the bill in the Senate and lobby for its passing from the senate as some
democrats members are against the bill too. Republicans have to lobby for getting
the support of the potentially rogue democrats. (Dummy Group of potentially
rouge democrats for correspondence LLB 4 A Iftikhar, Ikram, Ibtisam, Umar,
Abdulla, Ehsan).
e) Some republicans want to support the bill in the senate but need better
convincing. Liaise with them. Republicans have to lobby for maintaining party unity
so that its members do not sway. (Dummy Group of Republicans who are pro
democrats and may be corresponded with LLB 4 A Eraj, Mahrukh, Ayesha,
Maryam, Duha, Aqsa).
f) After passing from both houses, the senate shall send the bill to the president for
assent. The president is taking his time to sign the bill for unknown reasons. The
senate shall convince the president to sign the bill before the end of the session.
Important Instructions:
1. The CRs of sections A and B are to coordinate through the whole process. Both
sections are to work in groups for the task assigned (table given at the end)
answering above questions.
2. Each group shall have its own representative.
3. Each student in the group should be assigned a particular portion/research area of
the paper. The contents of the paper shall contain a list of students’ participation
and contribution in the research.
4. The minimum word limit is 1300 words, the maximum word limit is 1600 words,
including footnotes. (starting from introduction and ending at conclusion). This
would exclude title page or bibliographies.
5. The title page should clearly mention the title of the project, semester, students’
names and enrolment numbers.
6. Font Style: Times New Roman, Font Size: 12, Line Spacing: Single
7. The deadline for submission is 26th Dec 2022 and shall be followed accordingly.
8. Follow a standard pattern and order including Title page, Table of Contents and
Bibliography.
9. Follow one referencing style throughout the paper, (preferably OSCOLA) for
footnotes and bibliography.
10. Refrain from plagiarism. Cite all the relevant sources in the footnotes and
bibliography appropriately.
11. The research is to be presented through simulations on 28-29 December 2022 will
have a maximum of 10 marks.
12. Although you are encouraged to apply your analysis and evaluation, and while social,
economic and political factors may be relevant, keep the focus mainly centred on the
legal aspects of the issues. Write it from the perspective of a law student. Support
your stance by logical and sound arguments.
