Foodborne illnesses are quite common if you aren’t educated on food safety and can
result in you getting sick or potentially getting others sick. Some of the most common foodborne
illnesses include Norovirus (some may call this stomach flu), E.coli, and salmonella. If you got
sick after eating a home cooked meal then cross contamination is a possibility as to why you got
sick. Preserving helps stop potential growth of bacteria and other microorganisms on the food
that you’re looking to prepare or eat.

Researchers from the Center for Science in the Public Interest found that 44% of
food-borne illness outbreaks were tied to restaurants. The norovirus is the most common
pathogen and most people have had it or will get it at least once in their lifetime. Some may
think that it’s only possible to get sick from undercooked or raw meat but it’s possible to get sick
from raw vegetables, improperly canned food, garlic, soft cheese, and many others. Mold on
food can cause a variety of problems if you breathe in the spores from it like allergies, however
if you ingest some mold, it can even cause death. The CDC educates the public about
food-borne contaminants, for example, if a certain product from a company has been linked to
E.coli then they will alert the supermarket which has that product and will put out an alert ons
social media.
