Alleged links between Ecuadoria Gov’t

and Albanian mafia revealed
Quito, Feb 14 (Prensa Latina) An Ecuadorian intelligence report has revealed
alleged links between the Government of President Guillermo Lasso and the
Albanian mafia and drug trafficking.

According to the digital media La Posta, a report from the National Police’s Anti-
Narcotics Unit proves the ‘strong ties’ of high levels of drug trafficking with the
Ecuadorian administration through Danilo Carrera, the president’s brother-in-law
and an alleged ringleader of the corruption scheme.

The journalistic report pointed out that the Government wanted to disappear this
document on how Carrera and his friend Ruben Cherrez had ties with a company
apparently used as a front for the commercialization of drugs, and attended
meetings with the Albanian mafia.

Local media published photos of the documents to prove the accusation, which
shakes Lasso and his team.

Journalist Andersson Boscan, leader of the investigative team, affirmed that the
145-page report, to which he had access, will be delivered to authorities and the
different instances of justice, the National Assembly and the international press.

These new revelations are added to previous ones about the alleged existence of a
corruption network in public companies of the energy sector, the so-called
Encuentro Case.

This scandal further weakens the Government, which last weekend underwent an
electoral setback, since citizens rejected the questions of its constitutional
referendum and voted in favor of progressive candidates for mayoral and
prefectural offices.

In the meantime, several voices are calling for the resignation of President Lasso,
an impeachment trial, a recall or the so-called crossed death as legal ways to put
an end to his mandate and anticipate elections.
