Advantages of Magnetic Disks.

Magnetic disks (Floppy disks & Hard disks) are the most commonly used medium for online secondary
storage

in microcomputer systems because of the following reasons: -

(i). They are cheap (Low cost).

The cost of Hard disks has decreased making them to be widely used on microcomputers.

(ii). Have relatively fast access times for data stored anywhere on the disk.

(iii). Have high storage capacities.

(iv). They are re-usable - the disk space can be re-used by simply recording new data over old data.

(v). They are Non-volatile - information is stored permanently.
