OBJECTIVE
The goal of the research was to provide a comprehensive
overview of the development and uptake of NLP methods
applied to free-text clinical notes related to chronic diseases,
including the investigation of challenges faced by NLP
methodologies in understanding clinical narratives.

DATA ACQUISITION
The majority of the papers describe experiments run on datasets
that are not publicly available.
On the other hand, out of 16 papers involving publicly available
corpora, 12 exploit the Informatics for Integrating Biology and the
Bedside (i2b2) datasets.
The other 4 public datasets used are MIMIC-II, PhenoCHF, Temporal
Histories of Your Medical Event (THYME), and Cancer Deep
Phenotype Extraction (DeepPhe)
