that teaches the reader about it.

B. Proposed Reflection Paper Outline

1. Introduction.

The introduction should specify what you are reflecting upon – an academic article, a video shoot, a
lecture, etc.)

o State what you are analyzing (an article, video, lecture, etc,)
o Briefly summarize the work;
o Write a thesis statement stating how your subject has affected you. For example, one way
you can start your thesis is to write: “After reading/experiencing (the assigned topic), I gained
the knowledge of…”

2. Body Paragraphs

The body paragraphs should examine the ideas and experiences that you’ve had in context to the
assigned topic. Make sure each new body paragraph starts with a topic sentence. For instance,

• Has the article changed your mind about something? If so, explain how.
• Has the article left you with any question?
• Were there any unaddressed critical issues that didn’t appear in the article?
• Does the article relate to anything from your past reading experiences?
• Does the article agree with any of your past reading experiences?

Make sure not to skip on any of the above step, as it will ensure that your essay will have proper flow
and appropriate organization

3. Conclusion

Your conclusion should summarize what you’ve learned from the experience. Tell the reader how
your new found knowledge has affected your understanding of the subject in general. Describe
the feeling and overall lesson you had as a result of the reading or experience.
