ASSESSMENT: SOCIAL MEDIA’S SIGNIFICANCE AND ITS CONSEQUENCES

Is it true that social media is the main problem? Many of us in today's environment rely
on social media sites. We used to waste a lot of time interacting with people by sending letters
or emails and then waiting for a response. But now, thanks to social media, everything is much
simpler. People are influenced by social media in such a way that they develop different
personalities in real life. People have become so engrossed in social media that they have lost
the ability to interact with others in person.

Communication has been greatly aided by social media. People have begun to utilize
this not simply to communicate, but also to access the outside world. As a result, social media is
currently being utilized in a variety of ways. The advantages of social media include the ability to
interact with family and friends, make new acquaintances and communities, and learn new
things. For example, when my best friend relocated to another country, we were separated, yet
despite this, social media became a means for the two of us to interact. We can learn new
things, make new friends, and connect with people who have similar interests or aspirations by
using social media. Furthermore, it assists us in our hunt for useful knowledge and educational
materials when it comes to academics.

Since social media is such a new medium, little research has been done to determine
the long-term impacts of its use, both positive and bad. Social media, on the other hand, might
have a damaging effect. Excessive social media use has been linked to an increased risk of
depression, anxiety, loneliness, self-harm, and even suicidal behavior, according to several
research. Another reason is fear of missing out. Spending too much time on social media, for
example, can make you feel lonely and isolated, as well as intensify mental health issues like
anxiety and depression. Furthermore, the fear of missing out can drive you to check your phone
every few minutes for updates or to reply compulsively to every alert—even if it means risking
your life while driving, sacrificing sleep at night, or putting social media involvement above real-
world connections.

There is good and bad in everything in this world. Social media has a positive and
harmful impact on people's lives. Many people only use them for good, while others only use
them to harm others. My approach is to attempt to influence as many people as possible with
your talent as well as to be inspired by good influencers.
