BAGONG BAYANI
(By: Nora Aunor)

The song talks about the Filipino Workers (OFW) worked to different countries in the
world for their families to them a descent living, despite of the dying, loneliness, maltreatment
by their employers and even put their lives in they still work to earn money for their families to
give them a better life. The life of an OFW was never easy, “Kamatayan ang katumbas sa salang
di ako, katarunga’y bakit ba ganito” They go to a place where they are not almost familiar with
everything like the language, their way of living, customs, belief, foods, and culture of the
people. It is difficult to live in a foreign country, and especially to mix with other people in
abroad. Like, the song you can be fooled and abused in a variety/different of ways. They endure
abuse from their foreign employers in the extreme hardships of life, Filipinos are ready to accept
any job, just to make sure that they can provide their families with their needs and wants, even if
it means mistreating and ridiculing them. In the life of a typical Filipino family, this situation is
very common because any family member or parents would like to give better future for their
loved ones. Good opportunities in the Philippines are not abundant to achieve most of their
dreams.
I can’t deny the fact that the song penetrates my hearts and my tears flow. In this song, I
really felt the pain because my mother is also an OFW in Hong Kong. Ever since I was young. I
salute for all those OFW that working so hard abroad, and yet far away from their love ones or
family. It is so hard and difficult to work abroad the first thing that you might sacrifice is your
family you will not get in touch with them easily when you needed them the most, second is you
must not easily adopt the environment in abroad especially their attitudes and how they treat you,
the way they treat OFW. Our Overseas Filipino Workers OFW’s are considered new heroes
because their hard work in abroad will not only benefit their families but also in our country.
