and takes impor tant place among the
countries in production of iron, titanium,
uranium and manganese ores, hard and
brown coal, kaolin clays, rock and potassium
salts, oil and gas and industrial materials
(dolomite, graphite, quar tz and other
minerals).

since the beginning of the 17th century in
OIL AND GAS Ciscarpathia where oil was extracted with
buckets from wells at the depth of 4-6 m.
Commercial production started here in 8
1881 in Boryslav.

According to the International Atomic Energy Agency in Ukraine
there are over 20 uranium ore deposits with the total reserves of
over 200 ths t, speculative resources – over 250 ths t. 9
Uranium ores of the albitite formation belong to crystal rocks and are
suitable for underground mining with the further multiphase ore-dressing.
Involvement of these deposits in production requires the creation of new mines
and ore mining & processing enterprises, and also financial resources. This is in
progress now, for example, for the development of the Novokostiantynivske
deposit, where a mining and processing enterprise is being built.
Some deposits are located in immediate proximity to operating mines of the
Eastern mining & processing enterprise, therefore it is expedient to use them for
provision of the existing enterprises.
The underground leaching technology can be used on the sandstone
deposits that enables to increase a volume of uranium production without
additional costs for recultivation of tailings dams with wastes and to decrease
simultaneously in operating costs. The experience of use of the
underground leaching technology on the Devladivske deposit and 25-year
aftereffect monitoring testifies to the fact that this technology is eco-friendly.

METALLIC MINERALS
Ukraine is among the countries with the most developed ferrous metallurgy due to the presence
of unique raw materials base of iron and manganese ores within its territory. The mining and
smelting complex of Ukraine plays a very important role in national economy providing about
27% of a total volume of industrial production in the country, up to 10 % of tax deductions to the
budget and over 40% of currency receipts.

IRON ORE
Three iron ore basins: Kryvyi Rih (90%), Kremenchuh, Bilozirske where about 100 iron
deposits and prospective manifestations are concentrated, among which 58 are accounted by
the State Balance, and 22 are being developed.
Prospected balance iron ore reserves by class code 111 – 22 bln t, inferred reserves by class
code 122 – 8 bln t, off-balance reserves – 5 bln t.
Ukraine has about 6% of world iron reserves.
MANGANESE ORE
Commercial manganese ore reserves are concentrated within the biggest in the world
Nikopol manganese ore basin.
The State Balance has accounted manganese ore reserves of the Nikopol, Fedorivske and
Velyko-Tokmatske deposits: by class codes 111 – 2.2 bln t, 122 – 200 mln t, off-balance – 60
mln t. Besides natural sedimentary manganese deposits the State Balance has accounted
reserves of the technogenic ones.
Improvement of the carbonate ore enrichment and processing technology is also actual.

TITANIUM
The State Reserve Balance has accounted 26 deposits of magmatic (primary), hypergenic
(residual) and placer types, including four technogenic ones. 14 deposits (placer and weathering
deposits) are being developed. Basic titanium resources are concentrated in primary deposits.

CONCLUSIONS
Prospects for Ukraine-China cooperation can be seen in the
following main aspects:
1. Environmental. As Ukraine and China are mining countries with the
long history of mining complex functioning, a possibility of experience
exchange and potential cooperation as regards the practice of land
reclamation transformed through the mineral development seems to
be very interesting.

2. Technological. Development and implementation of new

technology solutions for extraction of certain types of minerals, the
manifestations and deposits of which have no commercial significance
under present market conditions and with available technologies,
open new prospects for expansion and development of the mineral
raw materials base of the region. Ukraine is open for cooperation and
involvement of scientific and technological experience such leading
countries as China.

CONCLUSIONS
3. Socioeconomic. At present the normative legal regulation in
Ukraine is being improved and reformed according to the international
laws. So, with the purpose of transfer of the Ukrainian data on mineral
reserves and resources to the international reporting standards, the
works over creation of the National Classification of Mineral Reserves
and Resources corresponding to the United Nations International
Framework Classification -2009 (UNFC-2009) are carrying out. In this
context cooperation between Ukraine and China is very fruitful.

4. UKRAINE IS RICH IN MINERALS, IT HOLDS OPEN AUCTIONS

FOR GRANTING SUBSOIL USE LICENSES. AT THE SAME TIME IT IS
INTERESTED IN INVESTMENTS – WE WELCOME POTENTIAL
INVESTORS TO UKRAINE !!
