ASSESSMENT ITEM 1: DESCRIPTION
Assessment Aim: The purpose of this assessment is to undertake one of the first basic steps in
understanding the operations and supply chain management of any company and that is to visualise the
entire operations and supply chain management. Students can use key concepts and theories to draw
this representation.
During the first sessions of the study period or trimester, students develop a basic knowledge of key
operations and supply chain management concepts and theories. In this exercise, for example, students
apply practised concepts to visualise the entire operations and supply chain management of their
chosen organisation.
Word Count: Maximum 800 words
Requirements: Each student is required to prepare a poster including, supply chain management
context and objectives, five (5) major issues and challenges, and a supply chain map.
A supply chain map is a valuable tool for analysing logistics and operations processes. This is a diagram
or illustration that each student will produce to highlight the product/service flows for the supply chain
of their product. The supply chain map also highlights the inbound and outbound flow from suppliers to
the manufacturer or service provider. The preparation of the supply chain requires research to clearly
understand more about the product/service flows for the supply chain of a product.
Instructions: See the separate instruction sheet in the “assessment one” folder in LearnJCU.
