Overview
Assessment 1 and 2 will use the same residential building as its scenario. The purpose of
these task is to assess your understanding and application of Learning Outcome 1.

Scenario

You are the estimator for a construction company that employs you, a construction/project
manager, three site managers, fore-people, twelve carpenters (including apprentices), and
one quantity surveyor. The company is privately owned, and the owner is responsible for the
commercial manager decisions.
Your company is one of three that have been invited to tender for the construction of a new
two-storey residential building.
You have quickly reviewed the tender documents, including (attached with this
assessment):

• specific conditions of contract


• tender summary notes.

You have prepared a set of tender summary notes to distribute to the team involved in the
project evaluation.

Task 1: Site visit


Use a template for both answers. Remember that what you add to the template that is
graded, not what is already on the template.

1. For this project, identify all the information that needs to be obtained from a site
visit. Provide a checklist to cover these items in preparation for your visit.

Task 2: Risk and opportunity


Assess the risks and opportunities to your company for this project so that you can
complete the Tender Rating System (TRS). See Appendix A.
Note: some of the rating criteria have already been completed for you. You need to
complete rows 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 14 and 15 only.
1. Based on your assessment, enter the number of points into the Rating column for
each criterion, and then add up all your points and record your total at the bottom of
the column.

reason for the number of points you’ve assigned.
