Explain briefly your reflection on history and development of ballroom dancing.

Ballroom dancing originated in England in the late 18 th and early 19th centuries
in which these dances, such as the waltz, were performed by the upper and
elite classes of society in balls and parties. Ballroom dancing is the most
artistic of social pastimes and most social of artistic pastimes. In all countries
and societies, dancing forms an integral part of the lifestyle. While the initial
motivation to dance is often a social one, once past that hurdle of actually
learning to dance, many find the music, the atmosphere and the dance, as an
opportunity to take on a new persona. In an instant, the dancer can be
mentally and emotionally transported to almost any scenario of their choice.
In leading ballroom I learned to be comfortable with my own skin and being in
close contact with other people. STEP funding helped in finding private
lessons to learn the proper technique which led to making it easier to form
connection with my dance partners. The friends that I made within the
community forced situations to help me overcome the obstacles of
connection.
For me, ballroom dancing is the number one form of dance among adults and
is widely covered by the media. It is also now being offered as an alternative
to now being offered as an alternative to physical education to high school
and college students a good indicator that ballroom dancing will remain a
favourite activity for years to come.
