Sir Henry Segrave was both a racing |
driver and a world speed record holder. ~
He broke the world land speed record \
three times and the world water speed
record once, becoming the first person to | \~
hold both records concurrently. He was
knighted in May 1929. In 1927 Segrave me
began racing boats, and 13.6.1930 piloted
Miss England IZ in an attempt on the
water speed record at Lake Windemere. FA
He reached 98.76 mph (158 km/h),
beating the previous best by 6 mph. However, disaster struck on.
further run, when his boat capsized after hitting a float object. He
suffered a punctured lung and - thought concious when rescued -
died shortly afterwards, aged 33. He was awarded with IMYU
(UIM) Medal of Honor for Sport posthumously in 1930.
