The Victim Heart of Christ Jesus

In the Host and upon the Cross
God’s infinite justice appeases,
As a permanent holocaust.

Three rays of His justice descend

From the Blessed Trinity,
To punish and bring to an end
Our guilty humanity.

But this Heart joining earth and Heaven

Pleads for our fallen race,
And in place of justice is given
A torrent of mercy and grace.

Yet alas, there are men who refuse

Having wicked and hardened hearts,
And instead by their sins they choose
To wound It with many darts.

And so in His cloistered garden

He has gathered a number of flowers;
To join Him in pleading for pardon,
In this noble vocation of ours.

There are roses – the emblem of love;

Passion flowers of penance and pain;
And lilies as white as the dove –
Purity keeps them from stain.

The hour is swiftly approaching,

When that Heart being filled to the brim,
God’s justice shall break forth, reproaching
The wicked now torturing Him.

Let us all in the time yet remaining

For mercy and grace intercede;
As victims with Christ still obtaining
Conversions of souls most in need.
