A warrant is a writ issued by a competent official,

generally a court or magistrate that authorizes an
otherwise illegal conduct that would violate individual
rights and protects the person who executes the writ from
damages if the act is carried out.
A search warrant is a court order and process directing a
law-enforcement officer to search designated premises,
vehicles, or persons for the purpose of seizing designated
items and accounting for any items so obtained to the
court which issued the warrant. Allows the police to
search for evidence of criminal activity. The search
warrant must identify and describe that evidence, and
where it may reasonably be found.
A warrant is a court-issued written order signed by a
judge. The warrant gives authorities the authority to
search, seize, and arrest people. Only when there is
reasonable cause that the police will uncover evidence of a
crime during a search may a judge grant a search warrant.
Only when a court has grounds to suspect the individual
named in the warrant is or has been involved in criminal
behavior may he or she issue an arrest warrant.
