Deci- Means 10 (0 to 9)
Let us proceed to the
next number system……
Counting from
0 to 7 what is your
favorite number?

and why?
0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 are the 8 components
of an octal number system,
that is the base of 8.

The process is very simple using
division, multiplication and getting the
remainder.

÷, X and R
11210 ÷ 8 = 14 R 08
1010= (?)8
Divide the given decimal by 8

10 ÷ 8 = 1.25 Multiply 0.25 by 8 = 2

Remainder ---- 2
Divide the given decimal by 8

1÷8 = 0.125 Multiply 0.125 by 8 = 1

Remainder ---- 1
1010= (?)8

Multiply 0.25 by 8 = 2
Remainder ---- 2
Multiply 0.125 by 8 = 1
Remainder ---- 1
Re-write the remainder from lowest to highest
remainder
=128
Let’s have another example :
12010= (?)8
120 ÷8 = 15.0 0x8=0
Remainder ---- 0
15 ÷ 8 = 1.875 0.875 x 8 = 7
Remainder ---- 7
1 ÷ 8 = 0.125 0.125 x 8 = 1
Remainder ---- 1

=1708
