The Tempest Act 4 Scene 1 Summary

Act 4 Scene 1

Prospero gives Ferdinand and Miranda permission to get married. They are happy and
Prospero and Ariel prepare a masque with magical spirits in honor of the engagement.
Ferdinand really likes the performance and Prospero’s abilities. He tells Prospero he wants to
stay and live on the island with him and Miranda. Prospero suddenly stops the masque because
he remembers he has to take revenge on Caliban, Trinculo and Stephano because they are
planning to kill him. Ariel and Prospero prepare a plan against them. Ariel first lures Caliban,
Trinculo and Stephano with music through a horrible, smelly and dirty path. Then they hang
shimmering clothes for them. They get distracted and forget about killing Prospero, except for
Caliban that wants to continue with the plan.
