BACALZO LEADS PNP THROUGH DAANG MATUWID

PNP Chief, Director General Raul M Bacalzo echoed anew his call to the 135,000-strong police force for deeper commitment to public service.

As I remind you always, our citizens must not only be served efficiently and effectively, they must also be served with utmost courtesy. My call for good manners and right conduct in policing remains and our commitment to this should be stronger than ever.

Good manners and right performance of duty remains to be th philosophy of our day-to-day service, Bacalzo told officers and personnel of the PNP in his New Year Message delivered during the traditional Monday flag-raising ceremony at the PNP National Headquarters in Camp Crame on the first official working day of the year.

The Chief PNPs New Year message was sounded off across the country by PNP Regional Directors in Police Regional Offices.

As the PNP faces greater challenges in 2011, Bacalzo said PNP policy will remain guided by the Eight Foundation Initiatives on Training in the Basics, Procurement Review, Enhancement of Equipage, Police-Community Partnership, Doctrine Development, Reward and Punishment, Human Rights and Mentoring Leadership, as well as the operational imperatives on the continuing camapign against street crime, loose firearms, wanted person, and enhancement of disaster-preparedness capability.

Bacalzo cited in particular the command policy on recruitment that should be based purely on strict qualification standards and must shun all forms of political patronage, influence peddling,

and opportunities for corruption in the recruitment process.

Bacalzo said the PNP expects to recruit 10,000 more policemen this year to fill its manpower requirement.

He said a review of the PNPs mandate is also underway in relation to the mandate of other agencies to explore better possibilities to further improve PNP training standards.

Bacalzo said the PNP procurement system has been re-engineered over the years to satisfy the requirements of transparency and public accountability.
