Summary of secondment activity
IDR types from sequence

At the National University of Quilmes with Gustavo Parisi I worked on the further development of
our previously published disorder prediction tool IUPred2A. I further enhanced the usability of
the method by upgrading both the front-end and the back-end of the server while added new
functionalities to the downloadable package. We also started to prepare a paper about the
method which we intend to publish in the journal Current Protocols in Bioinformatics.

Report
During my secondment to the National University of Quilmes with Gustavo Parisi, we focused on
the further development of the IUPred2A tool. IUPred2A is one of the most commonly used web
based prediction method for disordered segments and for regions which might undergo a
disorder to order transition upon environmental changes, such as binding to a partner protein, or
redox potential changes. We made adjustments to both the web based application and to the
downloadable version as well. The web interface was redesigned, to fit to the current standards.
The new front-end offers a cleaner and more user friendly interface using cutting edge web
technologies, while the upgrade on the back-end structure allows a more stable and faster user
experience. The downloadable version of the software got an upgrade as well, making it much
easier for end users to implement the algorithm programmatically into their own workflow. To
raise further awareness to IUPred2A we started to prepare a paper about the web server and
the downloadable tools. The manuscript is expected to be published in the journal Current
Protocols in Bioinformatics.
