"Graphic Novel" is a format, not a genre. Graphic novels can be fiction, non-fiction, history, fantasy, or
anything in-between.

Graphic novels are similar to comic books because they use sequential art to tell a story. Unlike comic
books, graphic novels are generally stand-alone stories with more complex plots.

Graphic novels provide a great alternative for children and adults who are reluctant to reading
traditional novels. The highly visual content makes graphic novels more engaging and helps readers
avoid falling into a reading slump. With so many genres to choose from, there is a graphic novel out
there for everyone!

Example: Batman: The Dark Night Returns

(Frank Miller )

Concept:

This is the story of a dystopian future, for gotham, and this time, batman isn't the perfect good guy, this
version of batman's ideology has changed, he has become more brutal and rutheless, but the dark
knight still refuses to kill.other than taking a life, he is willing to do anything necessary to save his city
from the corrupt chaotic wasteland it has become. will the hero that was once great, clense himself or
will he finally give in to the chaos, and after all these years, take the life of his enemies? these are great
questions that we ask ourselves as we watch and go through and experience every moment and
emotion of these characters.

Manga are comics or graphic novels originating from Japan. Most manga conform to a style developed
in Japan in the late 19th century,[1] and the form has a long history in earlier Japanese art.[2] The term
manga is used in Japan to refer to both comics and cartooning. Outside of Japan, the word is typically
used to refer to comics originally published in the country.

example: Naruto Shippuden (Masashi Kishimoto)

Naruto Uzumaki, is a loud, hyperactive, adolescent ninja who constantly searches for approval and
recognition, as well as to become Hokage, who is acknowledged as the leader and strongest of all ninja
in the village.

News 4:

Manga vs. graphic novel, in fact. The question is – what’s the difference? Although Manga and Graphic
novels are similar in that they both tell stories using art, they are different in many ways.

Both are referred to as illustrated novels. They use both images and texts to tell stories.

Both of them are read from top to bottom of a page.

Both of them have a variety of genres.

Both are based on a plot, setting, characters, and theme, just like regular novels we are familiar with.
