1. IOT - Time and Temperature Sensitive Material in Logistics

Composite materials are key components in Aero Space and Automotive industries, these are time and
temperature sensitive and demands constant monitoring and evaluation throughout its life cycle. These
parameters should be tracked from the time it shipped out of supplier warehouse to its consumption
point in the shop floor. In-between it will be unloaded in the receiving dock and loaded into the
warehouse freezers, this activity should be completed within a predefined window of time. These are
batch managed material to track the genealogy.

a. The temperature of the freezer (Container) and the composite material should be maintained within a
certain threshold limit.

b. The shelf life of the composite materials is dependent on the time that is exposed to atmospheric
temperature (inverse Proportion)

c. Key Parameters to be tracked:

     i.     Temperature of the freezer (During Shipment and in the warehouse)

ii.    Temperature of the Composite Material (in - Transit and warehouse)

iii.   Window of time it is exposed to the temperature outside the threshold (unloading from truck to
warehouse freezer, transition from ware house to shop floor)

d. Requirements:

    i.     Any deviation in the parameters should be notified to the key stake holders

ii.    If the freezer temperature deviates, a high priority maintenance order should be initiated to the
ERP system

iii.    If the material temperature deviation is identified a quality notification should be initiated in the
ERP system

iv.     Shelf life should be recalculated if the time of exposure to outside temperature exceeds a
predefined window of time.
2. AR/VR: Develop an AR/VR based UAV - Quadcopter model using Unreal
Engine Software
The AR/VR based UAV - Quadcopter model receives x, y, z, theta, phi and psi and Joystick (Throttle up,
Throttle down, Forward and Backward) inputs from the UAV operator. Based on these inputs’ UAV model
needs to position itself along with the required attitude based on the provided inputs.

3. AI/ML : Strategic and Tactical Deconfliction and Decongestion for UAS and
Manned Flights
One of the primary problems in the UAS field is the potential increase in the conflicts and congestions as
the UAS gets incorporated into traditional manned airspace. The ideas could be in terms of addressing
conflict and congestion between UAS- UAS and UAS – Manned Flights.

Specific Problem statement: Any one may be picked by the participating team

1. Come up with an innovative idea to identify potential conflicts based on the UAV flight plans.
Flight plan is the planned route for a flight which contains a set waypoint defined by latitudes,
longitudes and altitudes. Dummy routes that cross each other defined by a set of latitudes and
longitudes can be considered for this purpose. A conflict is defined as UAV coming within a
proximity of less than 1KM of each other.
2. Come up with an innovative idea to identify potential congestion areas based on the UAV flight
plans. Flight plan is the planned route for a flight which contains a set waypoint defined by
latitudes, longitudes and altitudes. Congestion is defined as a circle of 5KM radius that has
crossings more than 25 percentile of the total crossings. Dummy routes that cross each other
defined by a set of latitudes and longitudes can be considered for this purpose.

4. AR/VR : Real time measurement of objects using camera enabled devices.

a.       Measure object dimensions in real time.
b.       Create orthographic 3 view drawing of the object with all the dimensions.
c.       Save the orthographic drawing file in .dwg or any CAD File type.

5. AR/VR: Convert a 2d orthogonal drawing into a 3d model.

a.       Create a 3d model from 2d orthographic drawing of a single part.
b.       Use any 3 view engineering drawings as input (. pdf, .png,. snag).
c.       Save the 3d model in any CAD file formats.
6. AR/VR/XR: Wire Identification and Insertion into Terminal Blocks Using
AR/VR/XR
Problem Statement:

Terminal feedback Modules, usually called as terminal Blocks (TBs) are hardware components used in
aircraft wiring. The wire insertion process into these TBs is currently manual and is resulting in wrong
insertions and cross connections due to which technicians are seeing an error percentage of more than
90%, leading to huge amounts of rework.

Typical Terminal Blocks looks like below:

Part number examples: S280W555-108, -104, -920 etc.

In order to automate the wire insertion process, it is important to identity the different TBs and wires
automatically and guide the technicians on inserting specific wires into the respective ports.

Problem Statement 1: Develop advanced algorithms using image processing, AI/ML techniques to
identify the components with utmost precision. The algorithms should be able to detect very minute
lettering, borders, under various conditions – low light, blur image, odd angles/orientations etc.

Problem Statement 2: Many AR/VR/MR solutions require creation of multiple 3D models. Explore means
to ease the process of 3D model creation for the TBs from photos or other means. Solution should be
able to create near perfect models, lighter to use, ease to create.
7. Blockchain/Other Technology: Collaboration platforms
Problem Statement:

While we work on different site across globe, it is essential to enable all engineer to access the
same engineering design file to work. There is a need to build a collaborative platform which will enable
multi-site engineer to work on it while ensuring integrity, file transfer latency and security of the design
documents

Currently most of the teams have a global presence and the team members are spread across
geographies. As the result work proceeds in a slow and disjointed manner when it comes to collaborative
design, especially if multiple team members are working on the same design file. Archaic version control
methods and lack of data availability can lead to rework, redesign, IP endangerment and added cost.
There is a need to build a collaborative platform which will enable multiple team members to work on
the same design file while maintaining security and a single source of truth throughout the life-cycle and
protecting intellectual property.

8. Blockchain/Other Technology: Reduce carbon emissions

Problem Statement:

To establish a digital thread between systems ->So that we have a unified view of the total CO2 emission
contributed from Boeing system of system (Example -Factory).
This will help Management understand and layout strategy to control the CO2 emission and get the
necessary carbon credit from government

Carbon credits are mechanisms mainly focusing on limiting the emission of carbon dioxide or
greenhouse gases. As industries are deemed to contribute to the emissions majorly, the introduction of
carbon credits would help curb their emissions thus saving our planet. For companies that emit fewer
greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, the carbon credit systems offer incentives as an award.
Challenges faced by current carbon credit management system:

•             Lack of transparency

•             No standardization

•             Limited involvement of the government

•             Increased cost

There is a need to build a system that can assist stakeholders to trace and manage the carbon emission
by realizing the carbon footprint. It will help the government to automatically pay industries on
successfully meeting the criteria of carbon emissions.
