What Is Cloud Computing?

Cloud computing is the on-demand availability of computer system resources, especially data storage
and computing power, without direct active management by the user. Large clouds often have functions
distributed over multiple locations, each of which is a data center.

Characteristics of a Cloud: -
Anytime, Anywhere Technology: - A typical cloud can be used by the user anytime and independent of
the location due to its migration capabilities of a dynamic cloud using high speed internet device.

Pay per usage: - The resources in a cloud are metered based on the usage of the user, thus making the
cloud technology an economic one and reducing the burden of the user by shared resource than a costly
dedicated resource.

On demand self-service: - The resource in cloud is available to the user automatically from the various
service provider as the demand required.

Online access: - The entire cloud technology functions using a high-speed internet connected to various
devices. It involves a thin client technology with a highly placed runtime server in the backend.

Resource pooling: - The deployed resources are made available to multiple end users at a time in a highly
dynamic manner by creating the instances of it. The resources are allocated and reallocated based on
the demand of user in a multi-tenant model and independence of the location.

Rapid elasticity: - The resources in cloud are highly elastic in nature as the user can dynamically consume
and release the resource based on the demand. The user can view the resources as if they are infinite
and can be purchased in any quantity at any time.

Scalability: - The infrastructure of cloud computing is very scalable. Cloud providers can add new users
and servers to cloud with minor modifications to cloud infrastructure and software.

Reliability: - It is achieved in cloud computing by using multiple redundant sites. High reliability makes
the cloud a perfect solution for disaster recovery and business critical tasks.

Loosely couple: - The resources in the cloud are loosely coupled so that they can easily migrate and can
be scalable to the demand of the user.

Multi tenancy: - The cloud technology involves a wide range of end users being connected to a single
cloud provider.

Cost effective: - Another feature of cloud computing is the cheap economy by the renting and sharing of
all resources in the cloud than buying all the costly hardware, software, and other resource. It is useful
for all small business organizations.

Customization: - A cloud is a reconfigurable environment that can be customized and adjusted in terms
of infrastructure and applications based on the user demand.

High performance: - Cloud computing technology provides users with a high-performance computing
environment compared to all other computing techniques. It is due to extremely large storage and
powerful computing resources of the cloud infrastructure.

Issues In Cloud Computing: -

• Security
• Compatibility Issue
• Data Loss
• Standardization
• Monitoring Issue
