5. After breaking the seal of the booklet, verify that the booklet contains 14 pages and that all the
18 questions in each subject and along with the options are legible. If not, contact the invigilator
for replacement of the booklet.
6. You are allowed to take away the Question Paper at the end of the examination.

DARKENING THE BUBBLES ON THE ORS:

PART – I : PHYSICS
SECTION-I : (Maximum Marks: 24)
• This section contains EIGHT (08) questions. The answer to each question is a NUMERICAL VALUE.
• The answer to each question is NUMERICAL VALUE with two digit integer and decimal upto two
digit. (e.g if your answers are 0, 3, 0.3, 3.2 & 32 then write your answer 00.00, 03.00, 00.30, 03.20
& 32.00 respectively)
• Answer to each question will be evaluated according to the following marking scheme:
Full Marks : +3 If ONLY the correct numerical value is entered.
Zero Marks : 0 In all other cases.

1. A mirror is mounted on a stand as shown. The mirror has negligible mass. On the other side,
massless arrow is mounted. The natural length of the spring is 1m. The whole system is on
frictionless surface. The two bodies are pulled out such that spring is extended by 10 cm and
released. What is the maximum velocity (in m/s) of the image of the arrow as seen by a person on
the ground?

2. A hollow glass sphere of inner radius 5 cm & outer radius 10 cm is viewed as shown in figure. If
refractive index of glass is 3/2, find distance (in cm) between A & O as seen by the observer?

3. A particle of mass 5 × 10–5 kg is placed at the lowest point of a smooth parabola having the
equation 20x2 = y (x, y in m). Here y is the vertical height. If it is displaced slightly and it is
constrained to move along the parabola, find the angular frequency (in rad/s) of small oscillations.

4. At a smooth horizontal table are two identical cubes of mass m, connected by a spring of rigidity
k. The length of spring in the unstretched state is 0. The right cube is linked to the load mass m
at the end. At some time the system is released and the system moves without initial velocity.
Find the maximum distance (in cm) between blocks during the motion of the system.
[0 = 1 cm, m = 3 kg, k = 1000 N/m]

5. Two plane mirror AB and AC are inclined at an angle  = 20°. A ray of


light starting from point P is incident at point Q on the mirror AB, then
at R on mirror AC and again on S on AB finally the ray ST goes parallel
to mirror Ac. The angle i (in degree) which the ray makes with the normal
at point Q on mirror AB is:

6. Two blocks of masses m1 = 1kg and m2 = 2kg are connected by a spring of constant k = 100 N/m
and placed over a plank as shown. The coefficient of friction between m 2 and plank is 0.5 and
there is no friction between m1 and plank. Initially the whole system, is at rest. The plank is now
pulled to right with constant acceleration a = 2 m/s 2. Find the amplitude (in cm) of oscillation of
block m1 relative to plank.

7. A ray of light enters a rectangular glass slab of refractive index 3 at an angle of incidence 60°.
It travels a distance of 5 cm inside the slab and emerges out of the slab. Find out the perpendicular
distance (in cm) between the incident and the emergent ray.

8. A mass m is resting at equilibrium suspended from a vertical spring of natural length L and spring
constant k inside a box as shown:

The box begins accelerating upward with acceleration a. Find the maximum speed of the mass (in
cm/s) relative to the box in subsequent motion. (Given: a = 1 m/s2, m = 3kg, k = 1200 N/m)

SECTION-II : (Maximum Marks: 24)
• This section contains SIX (06) questions.
• Each question has FOUR options. ONE OR MORE THAN ONE of these four option(s) is (are) correct
answer(s).
• For each question, choose the option(s) corresponding to (all) the correct answer(s)
• Answer to each question will be evaluated according to the following marking scheme:
Full Marks : +4 If only (all) the correct option(s) is (are) chosen.
Partial Marks : +3 If all the four options are correct but ONLY three options are chosen.
Partial Marks : +2 If three or more options are correct but ONLY two options are chosen
and both of which are correct.
Partial Marks : +1 If two or more options are correct but ONLY one option is chosen and it
is a correct option.
Zero Marks : 0 If none of the options is chosen (i.e. the question is unanswered).
Negative Marks : –2 In all other cases.
For Example: If first, third and fourth are the ONLY three correct options for a question with second
option being an incorrect option; selecting only all the three correct options will result in +4 marks.
Selecting only two of the three correct options (e.g. the first and fourth options), without selecting any
incorrect option (second option in this case), will result in +2 marks. Selecting only one of the three
correct options (either first or third or fourth option), without selecting any incorrect option (second
option in this case), will result in +1 marks. Selecting any incorrect option(s) (second option in this case),
with or without selection of any correct option(s) will result in –2 marks.

9. A convex mirror and a concave mirror are placed on the same optic axis, separated by distance
L = 20 cm. The radius of curvature of each mirror has a magnitude of 12 cm. A light source is
located at a distance x from the concave mirror as shown in figure.

(A) The rays from the source return to the source after reflecting first from the convex mirror and
then from the concave mirror for x = 8 cm.

15. In the figure shown, a block of mass m is rigidly attached to two identical springs of stiffness k
each with other ends of the springs connected to the fixed walls. When the block is in equilibrium,
