This increases the rate at which pump speed ramps down which in tu could generate worse transient pressures. + Since wave speed employed in the baseline model is an estimated value based on pipe characteristics, the transient simulation was repeated with 10% higher wave speeds than the estimated values to ensure that potentially higher wave speeds do not result in worse transient pressures, a Eee TDWS ‘Dr. Srna ing, PAD. The transient modeling study was repeated with a higher Hazen Wiliam roughness coefficient of 140 instead of the design value of 130, Figure 19 shows the Pressure envelope for this operating condition, As Figure 19 shows no undue high or low Pressures, the protection provided for design conditions can handle the other critical operating conditions, Min and Max Elevation (meters) [Pirstine ‘Envelope —Lower Figure 19. It is assumed that the pumps {are started one after the other with discharge control valve of each pump going to fully open Condition in 30 seconds. Pump-1 starts with its discharge contol valve completely closed, Discharge control valve starts opening once the pump reaches is rated speed (or almost rated speed) and opens fully in 30 seconds. During this period, the second pump starts and attains full ‘speed. Discharge control valve ofthe second pump starts opening at 30 seconds and is fully open ‘by 60 seconds. During this period, the third pump starts and attains full speed. Discharge contol valve ofthe third pump starts opening at 60 seconds and is fully open by 90 seconds, During this Period, the fourth pump starts and atains full speed. Several thousand copies ofthis program are in culation all over the word, wth ‘almost all major pipeline design consultants in the US using this program for transmission main and distribution system protection.
