b) Course summary and mode of delivery:


This course allows students the practical experience of implementing core project
management principles in managing a project that is part of a multi-project program with
inter-project dependencies.
The student will gain practical experience by participating in a project management
simulation, where each student will be responsible for managing a project.

c) Reasons for introducing the course:


The core principles of project management provide a meaningful contribution to the skills
and competencies of professionals across all disciples and therefore are beneficial in both
professional and personal endeavours.

f) Learning Outcomes:
1. Students will practice implementing various project management principles and be
able to do the following;
a. Manage project budget
b. Manage project schedule
c. Take proactive steps to achieve quality requirements
d. Understand the interconnectedness of the triple constraints

2. Students will be able to effectively assign resources by:


a) Understanding the skillset of team members
b) Making decisions to maximize the utilization of expertise

3. Students will learn the benefit of teamwork since they will be required to cooperate
and collaborate with peers to:
c) Maximize the use of resources
d) Make decisions in the best interest of the organization and not just assigned
department

4. Students will evaluate internal and external challenges and apply problem-solving
skills to manage risks.

5. Students will gain experience in reporting on project status.

h) Methods of Evaluation/Assessment:
Four evaluation tools will be used in this course. These include simulation results, status reports,
reflective journals and the final report and presentation. The distribution for these course
evaluation tools is:

i) Requirements to pass course:


Students must achieve an overall minimum of 45% to pass the course.

A - 75 – 100%
B - 65 to less than 75%
C - 55 to less than 65%
D - 45 to less than 55%
F - 0 to less than 45%

Group Reflection
The Group Reflection is a recount of the group’s experience in the simulation and the
experience of working as a team. Each Reflection should not exceed one typed page.

and grammar.

Final Report
The final report should document the deliverables of all four Projects under the Program
and objectively evaluate the overall delivery of the Program. The report should not
exceed 2 typed pages.

Project Overview Provide a clear overview of the program, 5%
including descriptions of all projects apart of the
program, including the planned deliverables and
resources allocated for each project.
A brief statement on the program results.
Project Milestones Clearly state and evaluate what milestones were 10%
achieved against what was initially planned.
Challenges and Lessons Clearly state what challenges or issues were 5%
Learnt encountered and what specific actions were
taken to resolve them.
Conclusions and State what next steps are to taken to ensure a 10%
Recommendation successfully implement of the completed
Program.
