CESIM Project Management Simulation
CESIM Project Management Simulation
The approved curriculum will be taught in the 3 hour sessions and the simulation will be done
during tutorial sessions.
Upon enrollment each team, of 4 students, would be set up with each student as project
manager. Each project manager will be responsible for one of 4 projects - Digitizing, Payments,
Internal and Customer. The four projects will be a program.
Each project manager will be assigned three virtual team members. All teams will have the
same pre-selected skills.
Each team will be allowed two practice rounds to get familiar with the program.
In addition to the 2 practice rounds, each project will have a maximum of 5 rounds; completion
within 4 rounds means that the project is completed on time. Thus, the entire program should
be completed in 8 weeks, giving adequate time for feedback.
An orientation session will be held giving the overview of the program during the first tutorial.
Teams will be allowed to work during tutorial sessions and other group sessions that they may
organize independently.
Simulation will be scored automatically on accomplishment of objectives, utilization of
resources, management of the budget and timely completion.
The scores will form part of their course work grades.
An additional midterm assessment will be given to test retention of key principles and
knowledge.
Potential Benefits:
The simulations and the way students are assigned to teams will result in improved
engagement.
Students will get practice in working on projects and be able to apply the principles in the
specific knowledge areas.
Students will experience how they make decisions and get the opportunity to improve in
successive rounds.
Persons who are challenged by operating virtually will find more support due to the interactions
that are necessary.
Potential Challenges
As a result of late registrations, the programs will need to accommodate staggered completion,
much like a make-up assignment that is done after the regular session.
Students may not readily understand the concept. The practice round should give them a good
orientation if they participate fully.
Those who are accustomed to being on the sidelines will need to be involved to be successful.
