अभी-अभी समाप्त हुए वित्तीय वर्ष 2021-2022 में हमारी कं पनी
सेल ने अब तक का सबसे अच्छा उत्पादन हासिल किया है - हमारा प्रदर्श न ही हमें भविष्य में बड़े लक्ष्यों को पूरा करने के लिए
चाहे वह लगभग 18.7 मिलियन टन का हॉट मेटल हो, लगभग प्रेरित करेगा । इस वर्ष के लिए हमने पहले ही अपनी व्यावसायिक
17.36 मिलियन टन का क्रूड स्टील हो, लगभग 16.9 मिलियन रणनीति बना ली है । हमारे पास अपार संभावनाएं हैं और हम हर
टन का बिक्री योग्य स्टील, लगभग 34.5 मिलियन टन का अब लक्ष्य हासिल कर सकते हैं । हम जो कर रहे हैं, उसमें सर्वश्रेष्ठ

Steel Week at the World Expo, Dubai
Ministry of Steel promoted and showcased the Indian steel industry at the India pavilion in the World Expo, Dubai recently.
On his visit, Hon’ble Minister interacted with Dubai based companies to promote India as an attractive destination for steel
sector and urged them to set up plants and manufacturing units in India.

 Shri Atanu Bhowmick assumes charge as Director In-charge of Rourkela Steel Plant
Shri Atanu Bhowmick assumed
charge as Director In-charge
of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP)
on 11 February 2022. Prior to
joining RSP, Shri Bhowmick was
Executive Director (Works) of
SAIL, Bokaro Steel Plant.
Shri Bhowmick joined Rourkela
Steel Plant in 1988 after
completing his BTech in Metallurgy from NIT (the erstwhile
REC), Rourkela.
His first posting was in the Blast Furnace Department of RSP,
where he worked for 29 years, serving in various capacities,
learning the intricacies of steel making and rising steadily
in the hierarchy by the dint of hard work, commitment and
dedication. He was promoted to the post of Chief General
Manager in the year 2016. Subsequently in December
2018, Shri Bhowmick took charge of the Services area and
thereafter in May 2019, he was made the Head of Projects
of RSP.
In October 2019, he was elevated to the post of Executive
Director and posted in Bokaro Steel Plant. After his tenure
as ED (Operations) at Bokaro, Shri Bhowmick took over the
Shri BP Singh assumes charge as Director In-charge of Burnpur & Durgapur Steel Plant
Shri Brijendra Pratap Singh took charge as Director In-
charge (Burnpur & Durgapur Steel Plant) on 19 April, 2022.
Prior to this assignment, he was Executive Director (Works)
of Durgapur Steel Plant.
A distinguished alumnus of Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad,
responsibility of ED (Works) in February 2020.
With his rich experience and expertise Shri Bhowmick
unleashed a cultural transformation in Bokaro, that led to a
more harmonious working environment, robust operational
discipline as well as higher production, productivity and
profitability.
It is worth mentioning here that, a second generation
steel man, Shri Atanu Bhowmick is the son of Late Shri
BB Bhowmick, who superannuated from the Materials
Management department of RSP in the year 1992. Born
and brought up in Rourkela, Shri Bhowmick, had completed
his schooling from St. Paul’s School and intermediate from
Government College, Rourkela before pursuing his degree
in engineering.
After taking over the reins of RSP, Shri Bhowmick expressed
immense happiness over his return to Rourkela, which he
has always considered his home. “Rourkela has always
been very close to my heart as I have spent my childhood,
formative years as well as the first 31 years of my service

career here. It’s the blessings of Lord Jagannath that I
have been once again given the opportunity to serve this
land and this Steel Plant,” he has said in a message to the
Rourkela collective.

1990 and started his career in the iron ore mines of Bhilai
Steel Plant. He went on to head the mines at BSP and was
also successively associated with various operation areas
at BSL. Having a rich experience spanning over 32 years, he
has worked both at the frontline as well as leading from the
front. He has diverse experience in varied areas ranging from
mines, blast furnace, sinter plant in maintenance and overall
plant operation. During his stint in Bhilai and Bokaro, he was
instrumental in startup of several projects viz. ramping up
of the production from MODEX units such as BF-8, URM &
BRM at Bhilai including introducing 3 tier inspection and
maintenance system and successful execution of converter
�hell changing in record time in SMS-2 at Bokaro.
Under his able leadership, Durgapur Steel Plant has achieved
the best ever production in crude steel, sinter production,
total caster steel production, BRC production, production
from Merchant Mill & medium structural mill and finished
steel production during the year 2021-22.

SAIL employees shine at Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar
Cover Story
The employees of Steel Authority of India Limited made an
impressive mark in the ceremony of Vishwakarma Rashtriya
Puraskar (VRP) Awards for the performance year 2018.
The VRP, instituted by the Government of India, is aimed
at rewarding the efforts of workers from the industrial
undertakings at the national level. The prestigious national
awards were given away by the Hon’ble Minister for Labour
& Employment, Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Shri
Bhupender Yadav in a glittering ceremony organized at Vigyan
Bhawan, New Delhi on 8 March, 2022. The Hon’ble Minister
of State for Labour & Employment and Petroleum & Natural
Gas, Shri Rameswar Teli was also present.
52 awardees, out of the total 96 award winners belong to
SAIL representing 54% of the total winners. SAIL employees
have won 11 awards out of the total 28 awards given for the
performance year 2018, which is 39% of the total awards in
various categories of the VRP.
In a separate program held at Scope Complex, New Delhi on
6 March, 2022, Smt. Soma Mondal, Chairman, SAIL felicitated

the VRP winning employees. Congratulating the winners
during the program, Smt. Mondal emphatically said, “The
commitment, dedication and excellence of our employees
have been reaffirmed with them winning the prestigious
Vishwakarma Rashtriya Puraskar in such large numbers. I
am confident that our talented employees will propel SAIL
to newer heights. The culture of this organization has always
encouraged involvement, innovation and passion. SAIL
has always offered freedom to its employees to showcase
their ingenuity and it is heartening to note that it is being
recognized on such a notable platform”.

the rolling of accurate thickness of plates processed at

बीएसएल में वे-ब्रिज का उद्धघाटन

19 फरवरी 2022 को बीएसएल के कार्यकारी अधिशासी निदेशक (संकार्य) श्री
संजय कुमार ने नए रोड वे-ब्रिज 3ए का उद्धघाटन किया। इस अवसर पर मखु ्य
महाप्रबंधक (अनरु क्षण) श्री एस मख
ु ोपाध्याय, मखु ्य महाप्रबंधक (पीपीसी) श्री
अनिल कुमार, मखु ्य महाप्रबंधक (इलेक्ट्रिकल) श्री वेद प्रकाश सहित अन्य वरिष्ठ
अधिकारी उपस्थित थे।
इस 100 टन क्षमता वाले वे-ब्रिज से ग्रेनल
ु ेटेड स्लैग, पिग आयरन तथा अन्य
सामग्री के रोड डिस्पैच में मदद मिलेगी। इस वे-ब्रिज का निर्माण बीएसएल के
उपकरणीकरण एवं संचालन विभाग द्वारा किया गया है।
‘RSP Town Services Billing’ mobile android App launched

A new mobile app ‘RSP Town Services Billing’ for consumers
was launched by Shri Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge,
Rourkela Steel Plant in a function organized at the ‘Manthan’
Hall on 23 March, 2022.
The android mobile App has been developed in-house by
Shri VP Arya, with the help of Shri PK Das, GM I/c (Town
Services), Shri AK Mondal GM (C & IT) and Shri Dilip Behera,
DPO (C & IT).
Introduction of this new App will help the consumers
immensely as they can get the information as well as make
payments on the touch of a finger without physically visiting
the Town Services office.
The App contains features such as house rent, electricity
and water charges, as well as recent notices and circulars,
guidelines, FAQ etc. The most important feature of the App
is that consumers can also view their current bills as well as
outstanding dues of the last six years with details. They can
also make payment through “SBI collect” directly by clicking
the link given at the top of the bill in the app. Apart from
that, consumer can also know about any new notification
by clicking on the notification and can also view terms &
conditions by clicking on “Terms & Conditions” of payment
system.
The App will be available on Google play store and the
consumers can download the App and login with consumer
number, e-mail id, mobile no. and password.

 New Standby Blower for Reheating Furnace at DSP’s Merchant Mill
A new standby blower for reheating furnace at the Merchant
Mill of DSP was inaugurated by Shri BP Singh, the then
Executive Director (Works) on 4 March, 2022 in the presence
of senior officials and employees. The new air blower will
facilitate in steady supply of stable and consistent airflow to
the furnace combustion system.
Previously, the Merchant Mill re-heating furnace had a single
blower of 25,000 CFM capacity for which water sealing and
halting of production at Merchant Mill furnace had to be
done in case of any breakdown or disruption in mechanical/
electrical parts of the blower.

Merchant Mill to avoid any unwanted production loss in the

New Excavator at BSP’s Hirri Mines

A new Komatsu Excavator 450 was handed over to BSP’s
Hirri mines by Shri Manas Biswas, ED (Mines & Rowghat)
on 18 February, 2022. A bhoomipujan was also performed
for shifting existing garage to a different location. This new
excavator 450 will be helpful in facilitating mining operations
of dolomite from the mines and shifting the existing garage
is being done to make space for new and expanded area for
mining better grade of dolomite from the mines.

New Silica Reduction Unit at BSP’s Dalli Mechanised Mines

Bhilai Steel Plant’s captive iron ore mines in Dalli-Rajhara
Iron Ore Complex, situated about 80 kms from the plant is
going to have a silica reduction unit in future. The project
has been taken up in tandem with BSP’s sustained efforts
to improve the quality of iron ore from its mines. The
bhoomipujan or ground-breaking ceremony for the new
silica reduction unit at Dalli Mechanised Mines in Dalli-
Rajhara Iron Ore Complex was performed by Director I/c
Bhilai Steel Plant, Shri Anirban Dasgupta on 21 February,
2022. Being set up at an estimated cost of Rs. 129 crore,
this unit will reduce silica content in iron ore mined from
Dalli Mechanised Mines and at the same time, also help in
stopping slurry flow into Hitkasa pond.

Two upgraded electrical substations at RSP’s Barsua Iron Mines

Two upgraded electrical substations were inaugurated at
Barsua Iron Mines under Odisha Group of Mines of Rourkela
Steel Plant on 2 February, 2022.
The previously used 60 years old Reyrolle Burn make HT
board at 11 KV had became obsolete and encountered
repeated breakdowns hampering the functioning of the
units. Under the AMR scheme all the obsolete oil circuit
breakers were replaced with Siemens make Vaccum Circuit
Breaker and latest protection relays for better safety.

Automated entry/exit weighbridge system at Bokaro Warehouse

An automated entry/exit and unmanned weighbridge system was inaugurated at Bokaro warehouse on 21 March, 2022 by
Shri VS Chakravarthy, Director (Commercial) in the presence of Shri Amarendu Prakash, Director I/c Bokaro Steel Plant, Shri
MC Agrawal, ED (Sales & ITD) and Shri D Kumar, ED (Marketing Services).

Inauguration of iron ore screening unit at BSL

An iron ore screening unit was inaugurated at Bokaro Steel Plant by Shri Atanu Bhowmik, the then ED (Works) on 7 February,
2022. This unit will facilitate availability of + 30 mm size fraction of iron ore lumps for use in Steel Melting Shop.

 Replacement of electromagnetic vibro-feeders in converter shop of SMS-II at BSP
The Converter Shop (Electrical), SMS-II of
BSP has successfully replaced 54 elect-
romagnetic vibro-feeders with VVVF
controlled motorised vibro-feeders. The
electromagnetic vibro-feeders were
working since 1984 and were undergoing
frequent breakdowns causing interruption
in the blowing process. VVVF control has the
technological advantage of less breakdowns
and ease of maintenance resulting in greater
availability and higher reliability. Bulk
materials like lime, calcined dolomite, iron
ore, coke etc are transferred to weighing
hoppers using the vibro-feeders.

New testing laboratory at DSP’s Medium Structural Mill

A new testing laboratory was setup at Medium Structural Mill of
DSP and inaugurated by Shri BP Singh, the then ED (Works), DSP
amidst presence of senior officials and employees attached to the
‘Testing Centre’ on 4 March, 2022.

Innovation
The testing lab has all the testing facilities comprising tensile
test, bend test, hardness, metallographic analysis, impact test
and chemical test, etc. For sample preparation the lab also has
laser cutting machine, equipped with grinding, polishing and CNC
milling/lathe facilities. The time for preparing samples will be
much less compared to the earlier adopted conventional methods.
The lab will extend its facilities to other mills subsequently. The
credit for the new lab is attributed to the dedicated executives
and employees attached to the project, whose support had
helped in facilitating the process of setting up the lab.

New automated on-line oxy fuel torch cutting system at Billet Caster at DSP
A new automated online oxy fuel torch cutting system has
been installed in Billet Caster#2 in place of mechanical
shears for cutting billets in required lengths. The project has
been completed by a consortium of M/s Maco Corporation,
India and M/s Saldotecnica, Italy with the active support of
officials and employees of DSP.
The new torch cutting system provides flexibility to
accommodate wide range of casting speeds and cutting
sections unlike mechanical shears. With increase in
production of special grade steels, product identification is
becoming an important requirement. Cut surface produced
by this new torch system is smooth which is suitable for
product marking on ends of billets.

 Bhoomipujan of Health Centre at Khondgaon in Rowghat
BSP has been working continuously towards the development
of areas in vicinity of Rowghat mines project area under
Corporate Social Responsibility. BSP has also come forward
to set up a permanent health centre in Khodgaon, for which
it has signed two MoUs. The first MoU was signed between
BSP and Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Narayanpur on 23
March, 2022 for running the health centre while another
MoU was signed for construction of health centre building.
After signing of the MoUs, bhoomipujan was done for
constructing the health centre. Free medical facility has been
started in Khondgaon in the meantime. Arrangements have
also been made for referral of serious patients to RK Mission
Hospital and to BSP’s JLN Hospital for more critical patients.

Crushing & Screening Plant for mining iron ore from Dulki Mines of BSP inaugurated
A crushing and screening plant in Dulki mines was inaugurated
on 31 March, 2022 by Director In-charge, BSP, Shri Anirban
Dasgupta in presence of senior officials of the plant’s mines
department. Dulki mines is situated in Rajnandgaon district.
Mining activity in a portion of Dulki mines lease area started

in 2017. With the support of residents of nearby villages and
efforts made by plant’s mines department, mining has now
begun in another block of Dulki mines. A sandwik crushing
and screening plant of 250 tonnes per hour capacity has
been installed and once fully operationalized, it will enable
the supply of 9000 Tonnes of good quality iron ore lumps per
day to Bhilai Steel Plant. The first truck load of iron ore lumps
from crushing and screening plant has been flagged off by Shri
Dasgupta.

1st lot of PCB transformers replaced with environment-friendly

dry type transformers at BSP
The Ministry of Environment & Forests (MOEF), SAIL and
United Nations Industrial Development Organization
(UNIDO) have joined hands to initiate a Polychlorinated
Biphenyls (PCBs) management and disposal project at BSP.
Under this project all the existing transformers and reactors
at BSP which are filled with PCB based oil and have been
identified as a “PCB transformer” and “PCB Reactor” are
proposed to be eliminated. BSP has taken up the project
to replace 75 PCB filled transformers with environmental
friendly dry type transformer in initial phase. The first lot of
15 PCB filled transformers have been successfully replaced
by the team comprising of Converter Shop (Electrical) of
SMS-2, CET, PSD, Projects and M/s BHEL.

मैं न तो उसेन बोल्ट हूँ और न ही अबेबे बिकिला, मैं तो मात्र कृ ष्ण चन्द, लम्बे
समय से सेल (स्टील अथॉरिटी ऑफ़ इंडिया लिमिटेड) में कार्यरत एक साधारण
आदमी। फिर मेरी दौड़ यात्रा सनु ने में भला किसी को क्यों रुचि होगी?
मैं यह वृतांत के वल इसलिए लिख रहा हूँ कि एक तरफ़ आज तक नहीं दौड़े लोग,
दूसरे तरफ़ मेरी तरह आधी शताब्दी ज़िंदगी जी चक
ु े लोग जो सोचने लगते हैं कि
स्वर्णिम वर्ष बीत चक ु े हैं, अवकाश प्राप्ति का इंतज़ार तथा उसके उपरांत सोचते
हैं कि आराम कुर्सी पर बैठ चाय पीते अख़बार पढ़ते ढलती उम्र की मजबूरियाँ
झेलते बीतेंगे, मझु े उनसे कहना है कि जीवन के स्वर्णिम वर्ष कै लेंडर से नहीं बँधे
होते, वो तो आपके मन और सोच से जड़ेु होते हैं।
2011-2015
हाँ, तो मेरी मैराथन यात्रा शरूु हुई तबला सीखने से। मझ ु े हमेशा लगता था कि
रोज़मर्रा की एक रस ज़िंदगी में, मन की संतष्ु टि के लिये भी कुछ करना चाहिये।
इसलिये मैंने बोकारो के संगीत कला अकै डमी से तबला बजाना सीखकर, फिर
चंडीगढ़ कला अकै डमी से तृतीय वर्ष डिग्री हासिल की, स्टेज प्रोग्राम दिये और
तारीफ़ें भी बटोरीं। इस संतष्ु टि के उपरांत कुछ और करने की इच्छा प्रबल होने
लगी।

2014-2020 के दौरान मैराथन दौड़ने का सिलसिला प्रारंभ हुआ। उम्र 45 साल
से ज़्यादा चक ु ी थी। कुछ ऐसा करने की तलाश जारी थी जिससे ज़िंदगी भर तन
और मन को सकूु न मिले। तभी अपने मित्र कृ ष्णमूर्ति से प्रभावित हुआ जो किडनी
ट्रांसप्लांट के बावजूद मैरथॉन दौड़ा करते थे। यहाँ से मैंने भी मैरथॉन दौड़ में
हिस्सा लेने की कोशिश शरू ु की।
2014 में दिल्ली हाफ़ मैराथन से शभु ारंभ किया। जोश और शौक़ से ओत
प्रोत, जाड़े के प्रातः साढ़े पाँच बजे, शरुु आत स्थल जवाहरलालनेहरु स्टेडियम
पहुचँ कर मैं चकित हो गया। हज़ारों हज़ार की तदात में धावक व आयोजक,
विशाल स्टेज पर ट्रेनिंग-वॉर्म अप, जगमगाती बत्तियॉं, बड़े स्क्रीन पर ऊँचे स्वर
में प्रेरित करते गाने, ज़रूरी सवु िधाओं का ज़बरजस्त इंतज़ाम, माहौल में अपार
ज़िंदादिली। सभी उम्र के लोग, 20 से 75, अपना दम ख़म साबित करने को
उतावले, उम्र को मात देने को आतरु , शारीरिक रूप से दिव्यांग भी, अद्तभु दृश्य
था ! निर्धारित समय पर दौड़ प्रारंभ हुई। मैं भी दौड़ा। एक फ़र्लांग पर पीछे से
आवाज़ आयी, धीरे दौड़ने वालों बाएँ हो जाएँ, कहते कहते एक 75 वर्ष के धावक
मेरे पीछे से आगे हुए। मन से उनके जज़्बे को सलाम करते हुए दौड़ते दौड़ते उन्हें
जगह दी, यद्यपि जल्द ही मैं उनके आगे हो गया था लेकिन मेरे मन में हमेशा के
लिये वही आगे रह गये। रास्ते भर, ऐम्ब्यूलेन्स - जीप, हर कुछ दूरी पर प्रोत्साहित
करने के लिए स्टेज पर गाना, बजाना व नगाड़ा, पानी, शर्बत पिलाने, संतरा,
चॉकलेट खिलाने के लिए लालायित लोग प्रेरित करते धावकों को रूकने का
सोचने तक नहीं देते। जझु ारु धावक भी आवेश में दिखते, दौड़ते, ताक़त लगाते,
ताक़त बचाते, प्रतिबद्धता का प्रतीक बने निरंतर दौड़ते ही रहते। अंततः, मेरी
दौड़ 1 घंटा 54 मिनट में पूरी हुई। तन बेशमु ार थका हुआ था पर पहला मैराथन
मेडल पाकर मन बड़ा प्रफुल्लित था।
अगले वर्ष कुछ बढ़ कर करने की लालसा हुई। 21 से 25 कि.मी. मैराथन की
तरफ़। फलस्वरूप, कोलकाता में 2015 दिसम्बर को यह मेडल भी झोली में
आया। साल बीतते रहे, दौड़ने का सिलसिला क़ायम रहा। 25 कि.मी. से 42
कि.मी. की ओर 2018 जनवरी में मंबु ई जा कर इस अभिलाषा को साकार करने
की ठानी। छत्रपति शिवाजी टर्मिनल से दौड़ शरू ु होती है और अधिकतर रास्ता
समद्रु के तट से गज़ ु रता है। इस रमणीय मार्ग का जितना भी चित्रण किया जाय,
कम होगा। मरीन ड्राइव, चौपाटी, बांद्रा वोर्ली समद्रु -सेतु दनि ु या के गिने चनु े
सर्वश्रेष्ठ दौड़ मार्गों में एक है। परंत,ु सबसे अच्छा लगा, मंबु ई के बड़े छोटे, महिला-
परुु ष, जाड़े के अंधेरे में सबु ह सबु ह अनजान धावको को प्रोत्साहित करने, खाने
पीने का सामग्री जैसे संतरा, के ला (छिला, बिना छिला), चॉकलेट, बिस्कुट,
चीनी, नमक, ड्राई-फ़्रूट् स थाली में प्रस्तुत करने आए। उनका मैं तहे दिल से
कृ तार्थ एवं नतमस्तक हू।ँ
25 से 30 कि.मी. तो ठीक ठाक गज़
ु रा पर अगले 5-7 कि. मी. कष्टकर लगने लगे
तो अपनेआप को जताते, मनाते, हिम्मत दिलाते, महीनों का अभ्यास याद करते
पार किया। फ़ुल मैराथन की असली चनु ौती अंत के 5-7 कि.मी. में ही होती है
क्योंकि तब तक शारीरिक क्षमता तक़रीबन जवाब दे चक ु ी होती है। बस एक ही
बात आगे बढ़ने को मजबूर करती है, वह है फ़िनिशिंग लाइन छूने की आस। बस
यही दिखता है और मरते पड़ते, किसी तरह ज़िन्दगी का एक मक़ा
ु म पूरा कर फ़ुल
अशोक के पौधे
मैराथन का मेडल पाने का जज़्बा आख़िरकार 4 घंटे 18 मिनट में पूरा हुआ तथा
मझु े अपनी ही नज़रों में गौरवान्वित कर गया।
फ़ुल मैराथन के उपरांत 2019 में पता लगा कि इसी साल से प्रोकैम स्लैम प्रारंभ
हुआ है और मझ ु े अपने मैराथन दौड़ के 21, 25 व 42 कि. मी. दौड़ के मोतीयों
को माला का प्रारूप देने में कोई ख़ास संदहे नहीं हुआ। प्रोकैम इंटर्नेशनल एक
संस्थान है जो कि दनि ु या भर में खेल कू द के कार्यक्रम आयोजित करता है।
इनके द्वारा भारत में आयोजित अंतरष्ट्रीय स्तर के विख्यात चार मैराथन हैं।
प्रतिवर्ष होने वाली ये प्रतिस्पर्धाएँ हैं- पहला 42 कि.मी. ममु ्बई फ़ुल मैराथन जो
कि जनवरी में होता है तथा ऐशिया में सर्वाधिक धावक हिस्सा लेते हैं| दूसरा
21 कि.मी. दिल्ली हॉफ मैराथन अक्टूबर में, 10 कि. मी. बंगलरुु तथा चौथा
कोलकाता में 25 कि.मी. दिसम्बर माह में आयोजित होते हैं। जिस तरह लॉन
टेनिस खेल के दनि ु या में ग्रैंड स्लैम चार श्रेष्ठ टूर्ना मेंट - आस्ट्रेलिया ओपन, फ़्रें च
ओपन, विम्बल्डन ओपन और अमेरिकन ओपन माना जाता है, भारत में उसी
प्रकार प्रोक्लेम के चारो मैराथन में क्रमशः भाग लेकर नियमानस ु ार पूरा करने पर
प्रोक्लेम स्लैम चैम्पीयन सम्मान से नवाज़ा जाता है। नियमानस ु ार, चारों दौड़
- 42 कि.मी. मंबु ई, 25 कि.मी. कोलकाता, 21 कि.मी. दिल्ली हाफ़ मैराथन
तथा 10 कि.मी. बंगलरुु मैराथन पूरा कर प्रोकैम स्लैम चैम्पीयन पारितोषिक से
परु स्कृ त हुआ।

का मौसम विदा होने को था। यह वसंत के आगमन की सूचना थी।
सहसा उनकी नज़र अशोक के पौधों में आ रहे नव किसलय पर पड़ी। देख कर
प्रसन्न हो गए। कल तक तो ये पौधे ढ़ेर सारे परु ाने पत्तों के सूख कर झड़ जाने से
प्राणहीन से दिख रहे थे। आज जीवंत हो गए। मंडु ेर से लिपटी घनी मालती लता
में भी नए फूल आ रहे थे। पर ये लाल, गलु ाबी, पीले गल ु ाब के पौधे! उन्हें कलियों
का अभी भी इन्तज़ार था।
इन्हें देखते देखते ख़्यालों में डूब गए मयंक। स्मृतिपटल पर मयूरी की यादें उभर
आई कितने सपने संजोए थे अपनी आँखों में उसने। आपके रिटायर होने के बाद
इस फ़्लैट की ज़िन्दगी और नहीं जियेंगे हम। छोटा ही सही पर एक घर होगा
हमारा। बरामदे के पास ही एक बगीचा लगाउँगी मैं। लाल गल ु ाबी पीले गल
ु ाबों से
सजे बगीचे की सीमा चम्पा, चमेली और हरसिंगार के पेड़ होंगे। अशोक के दो पौधे
इसके द्वार पर लगे होंगे।
बारहों महीने फूलने वाली बेली और मालती लता बगीचे को अपनी सगु धं से

आओ कहा मयंक ने । चाय लाकर रख दी सौरभ ने। कितना अच्छा लड़का है!
दिन भर घर के काम काज में लगे रहने के बावजूद मेरी दिनचर्या का पूरा ख़्याल
रखता है सोचा मयंक ने ।
थोड़ा संभले तो चाय की प्याली उठाई पर वापस रख दी। साथ साथ सबु ह की
चाय बगीचे में पीने का मयूरी की आँखों में संजोया सपना याद आ गया । सपने
उसके ढ़ेर सारे थे । अपना घर, अपना फूलता खशु बूनमु ा बगीचा आदि । यादों में
फिर खो गए मयंक।
दसेक वर्ष हो गए। लगभग दो वर्षों तक गम्भीर बीमारी से जूझते जूझते हार मान
ली थी मयूरी ने। आख़िरी साँस लेते समय मौन एकटक मयंक को देखे जा रही
थी, मानो कह रही हो सात जन्मों तक साथ निभाने का वादा कर एक जन्म भी
आपका साथ नहीं दे सकी मैं ।
और उसके वो सपने! ऑ ंख मूदँ ने से पहले एकटक देखती मयूरी ने सारे सपने
मानो मयंक की ऑ ंखों में डाल दिए थे।अब उन सपनों को साकार कर रहे थे
मयंक। घर बना लिया था, बगीचा तैयार हो गया था। अशोक के दो पौधे बगीचे के
शरुु में ही लगाए थे मानो वे बगीचे के ही नहीं मयूरी के सपनों के भी द्वारपाल हों।
ख़ाली चाय की प्याली लेने सौरभ आ गया। अरे ! चाय नहीं पी आपने ! ठंडी हो
गई । दूसरी बना दूँ ? हाँ । पर उसे लिविंग रूम में रखो, वहीं पीऊँगा। उठ कर

लिविंग रूम आ गए मयंक ।
चाय समाप्त होते ही फ़ोन की घंटी बज उठी। शैलेश थे। पापा मैं और शैलजा अगले
महीने आ रहे है । एक सप्ताह रहेंगे। आप मेरे साथ आ जाइयेगा । हमने सोचा है,
अब आप और अके ले इंडिया में नहीं रहेंगे । हज़ारों किलोमीटर दूर विदेश में रहते
हुए हम आपकी देखभाल नहीं कर सकते । ममी रहती तो कुछ दिन और वहाँ रह
सकते थे, पर अब और नहीं। एक साँस में इतना कुछ कह गए शैलेश ।
सोच में डूब गए मयंक। सँभले तो कहा । आ जाओ, बात करेंगे ।
शैल ने ऊँची पढ़ाई की। अब बाहर रह रहे थे। अपनी ज़िन्दगी बच्चों के लिए ही जी
मयूरी ने।उनकी देखभाल, पढ़ाई लिखाई के अलावा जैसे कुछ और था ही नहीं ।
कभी कभार जब मयंक उससे कहीं घूमने जाने की बात करते तो कहती घूमने के
लिए सारी ज़िन्दगी पड़ी है । स्कूली शिक्षा पूरी कर जब बच्चे बड़े शहर चले जाएँगे
तो हम ख़ूब घूमा करेंगे । आपकी सारी इच्छा पूरी हो जाएगी।
पर नियति को कुछ और ही मंज़ूर था । शैलेश ने पढ़ाई पूरी कर ली थी।बेटी पाखी
के काँलेज की पढ़ाई के लिए शहर छोड़ते ही दनि ु याँ छोड़ दी मयूरी ने । मानो
के वल बच्चों के लिए ही इस दनि
ु या में आई हो वह ।
शैलेश की बातों से उधेड़बनु में पर गए थे मयंक।अगर मैं चला गया तो फिर इस
बगीचे का क्या होगा ?
बगीचे में हर सबु ह बैठना नियमित रूप से शरुु कर दिया था मयंक ने ।
गल
ु ाब की खिलती पंखरु ियों में मयूरी की मसु ्कुराहट देखते वे । मालती लता के
फूलों की सगु धं उन्हें मयूरी के पास ही होने का एहसास दिलाती । और पत्तों की
खरखराहट में मयूरी के पद चाप सनु ते ।
शैलेश और शैलजा आ गए । साथ उनके पाखी भी थी । पाखी को साथ देखकर
अचंभित हो गए मयंक । पूरे परिवार को एक साथ देखकर प्रसन्न थे । उनकी
ख़ुशी का ठिकाना नहीं था । तमु सब तैयार हो जाओ। सौरभ से सबके लिए नाश्ता

बनाने को कह कर बाज़ार निकल गए । पाखी की पसंद की सब्ज़ी लाने। शैलेश
और शैलजा के आगमन की तैयारी पहले ही कर ली थी । पर पाखी प्यारी बेटी
थी, हूबहू मयूरी की छाया प्रति हो जैसे। उसकी पसंद भी शैलेश से भिन्न थी ।
भोजनोपरान्त सभी साथ बैठे । बात शरू ु की शैलजा ने । “पापा हम सब लोगों ने
तय किया है, अब आप हमारे पास ही रहेंगे । अच्छा संयोग है, पाखी की नौकरी भी
हमारे ही शहर में है । बिना यात्रा की परेशानी उठाए आप अपनी इच्छा के अनसु ार
कभी हमारे और कभी पाखी के पास रहेंगे । इतनी दूर रहते हैं आप, हमेशा चिंता
रहती है । विदेश में रहते हुए बार बार नहीं आ सकते हम । और आएँगे भी तो
कितने दिन के लिए ? इसीलिए मैं ने पाखी को भी साथ चलने को कहा, जानती
हू,ँ आपकी लाड़ली है वो” ।
“भाभी ठीक कह रही हैं । अब आप और यहाँ नहीं रह सकते”, यह पाखी थी ।
“याद है, तीन चार साल पहले जब आप बार बार बीमार होते थे तो भैया को आने
में चौबीस घंटे भी नहीं लगते थे,तब वो इंडिया में थे, अब यह नाममु किन है ।
पिछले दो वर्षों में आप और कमजोर हो गए हैं, देख रहा हूँ मैं”, शैलेश ने पष्ु टि की ।
“विचार करता हू,ँ बताऊँगा । कहा मयंक ने । और गम्भीर चिन्तन में डूब गए ।
इतने वर्षों से मयूरी के सपने जी रहा हू,ँ इस बगीचे की देखभाल करते हुए, कै से
इनके बिना जी सकूँ गा में ? शैल! क्या वहाँ मैं छोटा ही सही, एक बगीचा लगा
सकता हू”ँ ? पूछा मयंक ने यह सोचकर कि वहाँ भी मयूरी के सपनों का साथ
रहेगा ।
“पापा ! ये पौधे यहाँ की जलवायु में ही फल फूल सकते हैं, वहाँ की कठोर सर्दियों
के मौसम में जीवित नहीं रह सकते, कहा शैलेश ने ।
सोच विचार में पढ़ गए थे मयंक । जब ये छोटे पौधे जिन्होंने अभी कुछ एक वसंत
ही देखा है, जिजीविषा से भरपूर हैं, फिर भी वैसे मौसम में उल्लासित नहीं रह
सकते” तो सारी ज़िन्दगी यहाँ की आबोहवा में जीने के बाद इस ढलती उम्र में
वहाँ रह पाऊँगा मैं ?
ढलती उम्र का अहसास शारीरिक क्षमता के ह्रास से होने लगा था उन्हें। प्रकृति
के इस शाश्वत सत्य को भी अनदेखा नहीं किया जा सकता ।
उधेड़बनु में पढ़ गए मयंक । किससे मन की बात शेयर करें ? किससे सलाह लें ?
मयूरी की याद फिर आ गई । देर तक सोच विचार कर तय किया मयंक ने। अब
वे बच्चों के साथ ही रहेंगे ।
बच्चों ने सब कुछ समेटने निपटाने की तैयारी शरुु कर दी । पर अनमने से रहने
लगे मयंक । और प्रस्थान का समय आ गया । सबु ह सबु ह तैयार होकर बगीचे में
बैठ गए । कभी फूलों को एकटक निहारते, कभी लता की पत्तियों को छूते रहते
मानो उनसे बात कर रहे हों ।
“पापा गाड़ी आ गई है, सारा सामान रखा जा चक ु ा है चलिए बैठ जाइए”, यह
शैलजा थी । भावना के सागर में डूबे मयंक बिना कुछ बोले कार मे बैठ गए । आज
उन्हें लग रहा था जैसे वे मयूरी से अन्तिम विदा ले रहे हों । नज़र उनकी अशोक
के पौधों पर तब तक टिकी रही जब तक वे आँख से ओझल नहीं हो गए, मानो
उनसे कह रहे हों मयूरी के सपनों का ख़्याल रखना ।

आभा से होगा प्रकाशमान ।
वसंत पंचमी तक सातों सरु ों को अपने अस्तित्व से किया झंकृत, कितने ही सरु ों
को अपनी आशा से किया अलंकृत । समर्पण और संकल्प के स्वर कोकिला के ये स्वर क्यों बन्द हैं ?

सिविल डिफेन्स द्वारा एचआरडी में “हम भी है तैयार” का आयोजन

भिलाई इस्पात संयत्रं के मानव संसाधन विकास विभाग द्वारा संचालित नागरिक
सरु क्षा संगठन भिलाई (भारत सरकार-गृह मंत्रालय से संबद्ध) के स्थापना दिवस
के अवसर पर इस्पात कर्मियों की धर्मपत्नियों व गृहिणियों हेतु एक दिवसीय
बनि
ु यादी नागरिक सरु क्षा कार्यशाला “हम भी है तैयार” का आयोजन 26 मार्च
2022 को मानव संसाधन विकास विभाग के सभागार में आयोजित किया गया ।
इस कार्यशाला का उद्देश्य किसी भी आपदा, विपरीत परिस्थिति व संकटकालीन
समय में गृहणियों को धैर्य , हिम्मत के साथ कै से कार्य करें व संकट से जूझने
का प्रयास कै से करें, बचाव कार्य कै से करें, प्राथमिक उपचार की जानकारी
देना था। महिलाएं घर को अक्सर अके ले ही संभालती हैं, इस समय यदि कोई
आपदा या विपरीत आकस्मिक परिस्थिति होने पर स्वयं व परिवार कों सरु क्षित
करना, बचाना व शीघ्र निर्णय लेकर मदद को बल ु ाना एवं अपना मनोबल कै से
बनाये रखना यह बताया गया। आकस्मिक परिस्थिति में स्वयं व परिवार को कै से
जागरूक रखें व सरु क्षित रहें बताया गया।
इस गरिमामयी कार्यक्रम का शभु ारम्भ मखु ्य शिक्षा अधिकारी व महाप्रबंधक
(शिक्षा) श्रीमती शिखा दबु े द्वारा किया गया। श्रीमती दबु े ने अपने उदबोधन में संसाधन विकास विभाग) ने नागरिक सरु क्षा का इतिहास, उद्देश्य व हमारी
कहा कि “हम भी हैं तैयार” कार्यक्रम नागरिक सरु क्षा संगठन, छत्तीसगढ़ द्वारा भूमिका, आपदा प्रबंधन, घरेलु उपकरण व विद्युत सरु क्षा व संचार सेवा विषय पर
भिलाई इस्पात संयत्रं के गृहणियों के लिए विशेष कार्यक्रम बनाया गया है क्योंकि अपना प्रभावशाली व्याख्यान प्रस्तुत किया।सरु न्े द्र नंदश्वे र, वरिष्ठ तकनीशियन

घर की सम्पूर्ण जिम्मेदारी महिलाएं ही संभालती हैं व घर में होने वाली किसी भी (मर्चेंट मिल) ने बचाव सेवा व प्रदर्श न पर अपना विचार प्रस्तुत किया तथाचंद्र
आपदा, दर्घु टना व अप्रत्याशित घटना में पहली प्रतिक्रिया या प्रथम दृष्टया के शेखर सोनी, मास्टर तकनीशियन (फोर्ज एवं स्टील स्ट्रक्चरल) द्वारा प्रथमोपचार
रूप में गृहणी ही होती हैं। अतः गृहणियों को इस हेतु तैयार करने की जिम्मेदारी विषय पर अपने विचार व्यक्त किये गये।
नागरिक सरु क्षा संगठन ने ली हैं और “हम भी है तैयार” के माध्यम से प्रशिक्षित
श्री मक
ु ु ल सहारिया, उप महाप्रबंधक (मा.सं.वि.)/वरिष्ठ स्टाफ आफिसर के

सम्बंधित जानकारियां एवं उनसे मिलने वाले लाभ के बारे में अवगत कराया गया। कर्मियों के अलावा श्री एन. सिद्दीकी, प्रबन्धक (कार्मिक), श्री प्रियव्रत, प्रबन्धक

31 March, 2022 to honour Prof. (Dr.) Prokar Dasgupta,
the prodigy from RSP family and recipient of the coveted
Padmashri Award 2022. The ceremony organised at the

auditorium of the IPG and Super Specialty Hospital, was
attended by about 200 students and teachers from various
schools of Rourkela along with senior officers, young
executives, doctors and paramedics of RSP.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr) Prokar Dasgupta shared
his childhood memories associated with Rourkela, his
family, friends, all the teachers of his school and expressed
how proud he feels to be a Rourkelite. “Rourkela has given from how to have a balanced and focused life to questions
me the courage, strength and resilience to excel in life,” he related to the intricacies of cancer treatment and traits of a

Tree Plantation Drive at SSP

A mass ‘Tree Plantation Drive’ was conducted at SSP township on the

occasion of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ wherein 75 saplings were planted
to mark 75 years of independence of India. Also, around fifty saplings
were planted near Works office inside the plant premises.

Renowned motivational speaker, Sister Bramha Kumari
Shivani, from the Bramhakumaris addressed the Medical
and Health Services collective of RSP on the theme “Service
with Smile” through an online programme organised on 10
February, 2022. A cross-section of employees from M&HS
department of IISCO Steel Plant also participated in the
session.
In her address, Sister BK Shivani highlighted the need to
increase the inner strength of each individual that will
enable them to perform better. She said that a deeper and
more profound meaning of the caption “Service with smile”
should be explored which starts from taking care of self.
The medical fraternity should concentrate on the mental
and emotional aspect of well being that will enable them and dear ones, in that order. They should practice as to how
to take care of self, their family members, their colleagues they can be reservoirs of positive energy and vibrations
& co-workers in the hospital and the patient and their near because positive energy leads to calmness and happiness.

‘Managing Commitments during Covid times’ seminar organized by CMO

To strengthen the customer-connect and enhance the
synergy between company and its valued customers, the
company’s Central Marketing Organization (CMO) arranged
an online seminar on 30 January, 2022 on ‘Managing
Commitments during Covid times’. The seminar was attended
by more than 700 people comprising of a large number of
customers of SAIL, CMO officials and employees from various
departments of SAIL across locations. Chairman, SAIL Smt.
Soma Mondal, Director (Commercial) Shri VS Chakravarthy,
ED (Sales & ITD) with Addl. charge of ED (Marketing), Shri
MC Agrawal were also present in the seminar. Smt. Mondal
shared her experiences of how the company navigated the
very challenging times of COVID and praised team SAIL for
its efforts in meeting the customers’ requirements during
difficult times. Shri Chakravarthy added that digitalization of
processes helped to navigate the challenges while making
processes smoother. The seminar also provided a good and
interactive platform for a very large number of customers to
share their experiences.

 राउरके ला इस्पात सयं ंत्र के कर्मचारी स्वच्छता स्वाभिमान कार्यक्रम के तहत
गोल घर क्षेत्र की सफाई में जुटे
राउरके ला इस्पात संयत्रं के स्वच्छता स्वाभिमान कार्यक्रम के तहत कर्मचारियों कार्यक्रम भी आयोजित किया गया । इस योजना का मखु ्य उद्देश्य टाउनशिप के
के एक ग्परु में शामिल वरिष्ठ तकनीशियन (एस.एम.एस.-2), कप्तान (स्वच्छता निवासियों में स्वच्छता और साफ-सफाई की आदत डालना और उन्हें कोविड
स्वाभिमान), श्री बसंत कुमार सामल, वरिष्ठ तकनीशियन (जन संपर्क ), श्री के उपयक्तु व्यवहारों से परिचित कराना है । यह योजना दो श्रेणियों में आयोजित
निरंजन धल, ऑपरेटर (न्यू प्लेट मिल), श्री सशु ील सेठी ने गोलघर क्षेत्र को होने वाली त्रैमासिक प्रतियोगिता पर आधारित है जो स्वच्छता ग्परु और व्यक्तिगत
स्वच्छता के लिए अपनाया है । स्वच्छता अभियान की देखभाल के लिए स्थानीय भागीदारी है ।
स्वयंसेवकों शामिल करते हुए 21 सदस्यीय समिति का गठन किया गया है ।
गोलघर के विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में निर्धारित दिन के तहत हर रविवार को सफाई
अभियान की जाती है ।
सदस्यों, स्वयंसेवकों और क्षेत्र के निवासियों ने नालों की सफाई की, सड़क
और क्षेत्र को कूड़ा-करकट मक्त ु किया, कचरे के निपटान के लिए कचरा वैन की
व्यवस्था की गयी जो कचड़े को उठा कर ले जाये, क्षेत्र को स्वच्छ और मच्छर
मक्त
ु बनाने के लिए पेड़ों की छटाई तथा झाड़ियों और जंगली पौधों को साफ़ कर
दिया गया । उन्होंने क्षेत्र के सौंदर्यीकरण के लिए सड़क के किनारे देवदार का
पौधा भी लगाया ।

 51st National Safety Week celebrations at RSP

To mark the 51st National Safety Week, debate and quiz
competitions on safety were organised at Research and
Control Laboratory conference hall by the Safety Engineering
Department of RSP for both regular employees and contract
labour.
On 8 March, 2022 around 100 employees took part in the
written quiz competition and 22 employees participated in the
debate competition. The topic for the debate was “Nurture
Young Mind, Develop Safety Culture.” Similarly on 10 March,
2022 around 55 contract workers participated in the written
quiz competition. 14 contract workers took part in the Odia
debate on the theme “Moro Surakhya, Moro Haathe.”

51st National Safety Day observed at DSP

This year, 51st National Safety Day was observed at Durgapur

Happenings
Steel Plant on 4 March, 2022 along with observing National
Safety Week from 4-10 March, 2022 based on the theme
given by NSC-Mumbai - “Nurture Young Minds, Develop
Safety Culture”. The week long observation started with
the hoisting of the safety flag at ED (Works) building by
the then ED (Works), Shri BP Singh along with other senior
officials and employees of the organization.

MoU between DSP and NIT

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed skill enhancement programs involving innovation, creativity
between SAIL, Durgapur Steel Plant and National Institute leading to publications, patents, copyrights etc. towards
of Technology (NIT), Durgapur, a corporate body constituted solving industry related problems & benchmarking of
under the NIT, Science Education and Research Act, 2007 on processes and academics.
11 February, 2022 with the objective of creating a platform
of Industry-Academia collaboration for synergy between
industry and academics. The MoU was signed with a validity
of five years on mutually agreed terms & conditions by Prof.
Anupam Basu, Director, NIT Durgapur and Shri R Muniraju,
ED (P&A), DSP including two senior officials from each side
as witness amidst of presence of senior officials from NIT &
DSP.
The MoU being of generic nature has been designed to
engage DSP and NIT in projects aimed at utilizing each
other’s facilities & expertise as per requirements, joint R&D
projects, professional consultancy, field studies, seminars,
conferences, workshops, lecture sessions, training programs,

First neuro-surgery carried out at RSP

The first neuro-surgery was carried out successfully at the
Ispat Post Graduate Institute & Super Speciality Hospital of
RSP on 1 April, 2022 on a 10 year old boy. The patient, Aldev
Nag is on his path to recovery.
Aldev, son of Shri Gonda Nag from a nearby village, was
admitted to the hospital on 31 March, 2022 with head injury
and fracture of left parietal bone with contusion.
Team of doctors comprising of Dr. SK Patro (Consultant
Neurosurgeon), Dr. Ayushman Satapathy (Neurosurgeon),
Dr. RN Mohapatra (Neurosurgeon), Dr. Manoranjan Samantray
(Anaesthesia) and Dr. Biplab Mishra (General Surgeon) carried
out the operation with cranioplasty.

Tribal festival at RSP Make in India Lion fabricated at RSP

A ‘Make in India Lion’ monument made in-house by the
Shops Complex of RSP was inaugurated near the main gate
of the plant on 31 March, 2022 to mark the ongoing Azadi
ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.

The plate was fabricated into the shape of a lion at structural

and fabrication shop, the rest of the jobs were carried out in
the mechanical shop where the scrap gears were collected
from the surrounding, welded and fixed in the structure and
painted to give it a beautiful look.

As part of a 10-day long tribal festival jointly organised by

TRIFED and RSP, a spectacular fashion show was organized on
6 April, 2022 that featured designs and clothes handcrafted
by tribal master craftsmen.

BSP crosses milestone of 200 MT of cumulative crude steel production

On 7 March, 2022 BSP crossed the landmark of 200 MT
of cumulative crude steel
production. Of the total 200
MT crude steel produced, the
older SMS 1 has cumulatively
produced 121803072 Tonnes
and has been phased out in
recent years.
The Plant’s Steel Melting Shop 2 that came up in the 1980s
during the 4 MT expansion with concast technology has
cumulatively produced 72125618 Tonnes of crude steel till 7
March, 2022. The Modex unit, Steel Melting Shop 3 that has
come up as part of the plant’s 7 MT expansion programme
and began initial operations in March 2018 has cumulatively
produced 6083085 Tonnes of crude steel till 7 March, 2022.

BSL team wins Lattice Business Conclave quiz

Team of Shri SW Kispotta and Shri Anand Raj from Bokaro Steel Plant won the Jigyasa Business Quiz organized by IIM, Kolkata
Awards & Accolades

under the banner of ‘Lattice Business Conclave 2021-22’ by beating 8 other teams in the finale. 694 teams participated in the
preliminary round. Subsequently, the winning team was felicitated by Director-In-charge of BSL, Shri Amarendu Prakash.

SAIL wins National Water Award

SAIL has bagged the 3rd prize under best industry category at
the 3rd National Water Awards announced by Hon’ble Union
Jal Shakti Minister, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat recently.
Bhilai Steel Plant’s (BSP) Universal Rail Mill - Zero Liquid
Discharge (URM- ZLD) had been taken as a model case for
the award.
URM of BSP started recycling its major backwash water from
Scale Removal Filters to become a Zero Liquid Discharge
Unit. Underground pipe line was laid at URM recently with
in-house resources across two different units to recycle
backwash water from filters to primary settling tank.

 Sports achievers of Bhilai schools felicitated

Students from various schools of Bhilai who won gold medals
at national level championships were recently felicitated by
Ms. Shikha Dubey, GM (Education) at a function organised
by Education Department of BSP. Mayank Kumar, student of
Class XI, Bhilai Vidyalaya, Sector 02 and son of Shri Poshan Lal
won Gold Medal in the National Fencing Championship held
at Panipat. Revati Kumari, student of Class XI, Sr. Secondary
School, Sector 04 and daughter of Shri Balachandran won
Gold Medal at the National Karate Championship held at

Health Awareness Programme organised at RSP to mark World TB Day

Dr. Deepa Lavangare elaborated on this year’s theme, i.e.
“Invest to end TB: Save lives.” She emphasised upon the
need of investing in efforts that would lead to removal of
ignorance, create greater awareness on health, hygiene and
cleanliness, nutrition and proper treatment.
The lecture session was followed by open house discussion
where the employees participated actively. At the outset
Dr. T Mishra welcomed the gathering and highlighted the
activities of OHSC while Dr. Surendra Kumar, Senior DMO
(OHSC) proposed a formal vote of thanks. The programme
was coordinated by Mr. KC Pradhan, Occupational Hygiene
Technician (OHSC).

A Health awareness programme was organised at

Dhanwantri conference hall of Occupational Health Centre
of RSP on 24 March, 2022 to mark the World Tuberculosis
Day. Dr. LK Biswal, CMO (M&HS) was the chief guest and
inaugurated the programme. Dr. Deepa Lavangare, Deputy
CMO (Public Health) was the guest speaker. Present on
the occasions were Dr. T Mishra, Additional CMO (OHSC),
other doctors, nurses and staff of OHSC. The function was
attended by employees from different departments of the
plant.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Biswal elaborated the harmful
effects of TB and urged the participants to help community
at large to fight the disease by timely detection and
medication.

Thirty dance troupes from different villages of Kuarmunda
Block enthusiastically participated in the zonal level
competition of Synergy Lok Sanskrutik Mahotsav, organized
by the CSR department of RSP at Sarandamal village on 28
March, 2022. The programme was witnessed by a large
number of villagers from neighbouring areas. As a part of
its CSR initiatives, RSP organises the Synergy Lok Sanskrutik
Mahotsav every year. The zonal level competitions
are organised in four blocks and the final round of the
competition was organised at Rourkela.

बीएसएल में हेल्थ स्क्रीनिंग कैं प का आयोजन

मानसिक रूप से दिव्यांग बच्चों को समाज की मखु ्य धारा में स्वास्थ्य और खेल-
कू द के माध्यम से जोड़ने की महिु म को आगे बढ़ाने के उद्देश्य से बोकारो स्टील
प्लांट ने स्पेशल ओलंपिक भारत के साथ हाथ मिलाने का फै सला किया है ।
बोकारो हेल्थ स्क्रीनिंग कैं प में बोकारो, धनबाद और रांची के लगभग 300
मानसिक रूप से दिव्यांग बच्चों ने भाग लिया । इसमें आशा लता कें द्र, बोकारो
के अलावा धनबाद के जीवन ज्योति और पहला कदम तथा रांची की संस्था
दीपशिखा के बच्चे भी शामिल थे ।
उल्लेखनीय है कि बीएसएल अपने सीएसआर के माध्यम से स्वास्थ्य और खेल
को बढ़ावा देने के क्षेत्रों में लंबे समय से काम कर रही है । बीएसएल अब दिव्यांग
बच्चों के उत्थान के क्षेत्र में भी लगातार काम करने और खेल के माध्यम से उन्हें
मखु ्य धारा से जोड़ने के महि ु म में शामिल हो रहा है । इसी क्रम में बीएसएल
द्वारा बोकारो में दिव्यांगों के लिए राष्ट्रीय स्तर की साइकिलिंग और बैडमिंटन
प्रतियोगिता के आयोजन की योजना भी है ।

राउरके ला इस्पात सयं ंत्र में सिलाई - कौशल विकास प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम
राउरके ला इस्पात संयत्रं (आरएसपी) के पार्श्वांचल विकास संस्थान में पार्श्वांचल बस्तियों से हैं । 15 दिनों तक चलने वाले इस कार्यक्रम के दौरान उन्हें सिलाई
गांवों और बस्ती क्षेत्रों की 20 महिलाओं के लिए सिलाई का कौशल विकास मशीनों को जोड़ने और लगाने, विभिन्न कपड़ों की कटाई और सिलाई का
प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम प्रारंभ हुआ । कार्यक्रम का आयोजन आरएसपी के सीएसआर प्रशिक्षण दिया गया । सिलाई मशीन और प्रशिक्षण सहायता उषा द्वारा प्रदान की
विभाग द्वारा भवु नेश्वर स्थित गैर सरकारी संस्था, ग्राम उत्थान और उषा के गई और प्रशिक्षण के लिए आवश्यक सामग्री आरएसपी द्वारा दी गई। प्रशिक्षण पूरा
सहयोग से किया गया । होने के बाद एक वर्ष तक ग्राम उत्थान प्रशिक्षणार्थियों का निरिक्षण करेगा, ताकि
20 लाभार्थियों में से 17 नआ कार्यक्रम की स्थिरता सनिश्चि
ु त की जा सके । प्रशिक्षण कार्यक्रम के संचालन की
ु गाँव, कुआरमडुँ ा, लाठीकटा और बिसरा जैसे
पार्श्वांचल प्रखंड से हैं, जबकि 3 महिलाएँ औद्योगिक टाउनशिप की विभिन्न कुल लागत 5.25 लाख रूपये है, जिसे आरएसपी द्वारा वहन किया जा रहा है ।

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has administered more than here that RSP has purchased 12000 Covishield doses and the
11,200 COVID vaccines to employees, their dependants, ex- vaccination is still going on for the persons above 18 years at
employees, contract workers, residents of servant quarters, the Rehabilitation Centre of Ispat General Hospital.

Grameen Nritya Sangeet Pratiyogita 2022 at DSP

The Grameen Nritya Sangeet Pratiyogita is being organised
under DSP’s CSR scheme since the last eleven years to
promote the pristine rural folklore & culture and local
talents from the surrounding villages.
This year, Durgapur Grameen Nritya Sangeet Pratiyogita
- 2022 was organised on 26 March, 2022 under CSR of
DSP at Shilpangan auditorium. 32 teams comprising of
550 participants from the surrounding villages including
Model Steel Villages developed under DSP’s CSR scheme
participated in this year’s competition.
6 best teams from the participant teams were selected
as winners. The felicitation program of winners of the
competition was held in the evening hours on 26 March,
2022 in the auditorium of Shilpangan.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Under its CSR, VISL has been organizing various social
development activities in and around Bhadravati and
peripheral areas, in which emphasis was laid on rural
development, improving the educational infrastructure,
providing educational support to needy students etc. In
addition, VISL maintains various basic facilities such as
stadium, gymnasium, parks etc. in order to encourage
sporting activities and recreational facilities in the
township.
This year as part of CSR & Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, VISL
distributed educational kits comprising of globes, rolling
black boards to two government schools and also school
bags, writing notebooks, geometry boxes to 109 students.
Educational kits were also distributed to Government Higher
Primary School, Upper Hutha.

Village health camp by VISL hospital

Health camps were organized in the village of Dodderi
and Badanehal, near Bhadravati on 9 and 10 March, 2022
under CSR and Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The program was
inaugurated on 9 March, 2022 at Dodderi in which various
senior officials were present. In the health camp detection
of diabetes, blood pressure, orthopedic, gynecological and
dental problems was done and expert consultation and
advice given by the Doctors of VISL namely Dr. MY Suresh
(Orthopedician), Dr. Sujeeth Kumar (Physician), Dr. TN
Sushma (Gynecologist), Dr. Suresha SN (Dentist) and the
paramedical staff. In total, 106 villagers at Dodderi and 100
villagers at Badanehal benefitted from the camp.

RSP hockey team wins SPSB Championship

RSP Hockey team has emerged as the champion in the
SPSB Inter Steel Plant Hockey Championship 2022. The
championship was organized by Tata Steel in association
with Steel Plant Sports Board (SPSB) at Naval Tata Hockey
Academy, ISWP Sports Complex, Jamshedpur from 23 - 25
March, 2022. Notably, RSP team is the defending champion
having won the last edition of the tournament held in 2019.
The RSP team comprising cadets and a former cadet of SAIL
Kerobin Lakra, the captain of RSP team had an outstanding
Hockey Academy displayed brilliant skills to beat Tata Steel
tournament and scored 2 goals in every match.

in the league matches as well. The RSP team convincingly In a function organised at Biju Pattnaik Hockey Stadium on

Shilanand Lakra of SAIL Hockey Academy represents

India in FIH Men’s Hockey Pro League

Shilanand Lakra, an alumnus of SAIL Hockey Academy of RSP secured a place in the

Indian team announced by Hockey India for the FIH Men’s Hockey Pro League. The
championship was played in Potchefstroom, South Africa from 8-13 February, 2022.
Shilanand who plays at the forward line made debut in the Indian hockey squad in
the 27th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup Tournament in March 2018. The promising youngster
has so far earned 18 international caps scoring 15 goals for India.

RSP organizes 12th Ispat Synergy Cricket Championship 2022

Rourkela Steel Plant organised the 12th Ispat Synergy Cricket Championship 2022 recently. The Steel Melting Shop – II (SMS-
II) team emerged as the champion in this employee engagement initiative by RSP.
The SMS-II team beat the electrical team by 10 runs in a nail biting final match played on 17 March, 2022 at Ispat Stadium,
Sector-6. Batting first, team SMS-II scored 105 for the loss of 3 wickets in stipulated 12 overs, while team electrical managed
to score 95 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Shri Sankar Swain of SMS-II was adjudged the man of the match.

 Inauguration of Ispat Fitness Centre at BSP

Ispat Fitness Centre (IFC) has been inaugurated by Shri

Anirban Dasgupta, Director In-charge, BSP on the 22 March,
2022 at 4th Floor Ispat Bhawan. This is a unique facility in SAIL
extended to the employees within the office building. Such
facilities within their premises are being given by companies
today to their employees for growth and well-being of self
as well as the organization. This is also expected to result in
improving employee satisfaction index at BSP.
This initiative taken by the Finance department of BSP with
management support could be completed in record time
due to unstinted help by Personnel, MM, Sports, Town and
Works Departments.
The IFC has latest equipment for use by employees such as
treadmills, multi gym for body tuning, abdomen trimmer,
bench press, shoulder press, chest press and space for yoga.
It also contains changing rooms for employees. It will be an
unmanned centre with 3 year AMC support.

बोकारो स्टील प्लांट के मानव संसाधन विकास विभाग द्वारा 3 मार्च को
मोहनकुमार मंगलम स्टेडियम में ट्रेनिज एथलेटिक मीट का आयोजन किया गया
। एथलेटिक मीट का उद्घाटन अधिशासी निदेशक (सामग्री प्रबंधन तथा कार्मिक
एवं प्रशासन) श्री वी के पाण्डेय ने गब्बा ु रे छोड़कर किया । इस अवसर पर
मखु ्य महाप्रबंधक प्रभारी (नगर प्रशासन) श्री बी.एस.पोपली, मखु ्य महाप्रबंधक
प्रभारी (कार्मिक) श्री पवन कुमार, मखु ्य महाप्रबंधक (सरु क्षा) श्री मनोज कुमार,

VISL co-sponsored the ‘Karnataka Wheelchair Premier League Cricket Tournament’ at VISL Stadium in Bhadravathi from 25-

The annual SAIL cricket match was played between SAIL Giants (Chairman’s team) and SAIL Warriors (Directors’ team) on 26
February, 2022 at Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in New Delhi. SAIL Giants won the match by 5 wickets.

 “Making the Elephant Dance: The Turnaround Story of SAIL”

No story is worth telling without twists and turns. “Making
the Elephant Dance: The Turnaround Story of SAIL” by Mr.
Arvind Pande (former Chairman SAIL) and Mr. Sanjay Kumar
(Retd.), from Business Planning of SAIL makes the reader
live the experiences. The SAIL turnaround story is a good
narration of leadership and organizational cultural change in
SAIL through the eyes Mr. Pande and Mr. Sanjay Kumar who
orchestrated this mammoth endeavor.
The first impression of the title comes across as a cliché.
In fact, there are at least three books with similar title on
corporate turnarounds. But, Mr. Pande and Mr. Kumar’s
writing, an account of turning around the fortunes of
PSU behemoth - SAIL, takes the reader on an enthralling
experience.
‘Making the Elephant Dance’ illustrates the beginning of the
Indian steel industry – the era of control that the authors
refer to as “straight out of Kafkaesque imagination” to
the nineties which was an “extraordinary decade” for the
steel industry during which the “steel sector transformed
from being most protected to the most open”. The book
beautifully explains the business environment in the 1990s
as “such was the enthusiasm that a famous company that
was in business of selling icecreams visited SAIL to gain an
understanding of the prospect of venturing into steel”.

knees.” It is very difficult not to continue
reading the book especially when the
authors start their new chapter with the
title “Is it the beginning or the end”.
After setting the context in the first two
chapters, the authors take you through
the myriad complexities of the interplay
between steel business environment
and SAIL in a manner so picturesque and
simple that one actually ends up walking
the same path as authors did, pushing
the idea of “Impecuniosities leads to

creativity”.
Each chapter in the book navigates through the “on-the-
ground” processes, products and services that cascade
from broad level strategies targeted at improving business
results, customer delight, employee engagement and
societal branding and buy-in. The authors also share their
experience in interweaving the importance of value added
by aligning people, partnership and resources and the
leadership that makes the people say “We did it ourselves”.
More than that, this beautiful narrative is about hope as well.
The authors describe the failures of some of their initiatives
with equal detail and effort. Some were exemplary and
ground breaking initiatives and some were small scale and
yet very effective. Not all of them yielded desired results
and yet SAIL is what it is because of what it learnt during its
trying times.
This “business book” is “unputdownable” and “thrilling”. It
carries through at a pace that takes the reader through two
decades of concerted efforts in just three hundred pages.
This pioneering perspective on making invisible work visible
is both intellectually-grounded and practically-oriented. It
is a vibrant visual collage that shares the inspiring stories
of visionaries who transformed lives by their visionary
thoughts and sustained efforts.

Sangeet from eminent singer Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta
and also took vocal training from Pandit Debojyoti Bose

Dr Rashmi Srivastava (nee Jha) is an ex Surgeon Lt of the
Indian Navy. She is the daughter of Mr Jiweshwar Jha, ex
DGM ASP, who is now retired and is settled in Durgapur.
Rashmi has been recently appointed as the Clinical Director
of the Maternity and Paediatric healthcare network for the
Highland region of Scotland (National Health Service -NHS)
in the United Kingdom at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness,
Scotland. Rashmi is the first Asian/Indian to be appointed
to this post.
Rashmi fondly remembers the experience of growing up
as part of the SAIL family in the 70’s and 80’s in Durgapur.
She feels grateful to all the teachers, friends, family and
all members of the SAIL fraternity who encouraged her
and created a very conducive atmosphere for the young
generation to succeed.
