Glossary

1. Radar: Radar is a radiolocation system that uses radio waves to determine the distance, angle, and radial
velocity of objects relative to the site.

Uses: Radar is used to detect and track aircraft, ships, spacecraft, guided missiles, and motor vehicles,
and map weather formations, and terrain.

2. Sensor: A sensor is a device, module, machine, or subsystem that detects events or changes in its
environment and sends the information to other electronics, frequently a computer processor.

Types of Sensor: Position Sensors, Pressure Sensors and Temperature Sensors

A device that measures the temperature of a system is called a thermal sensor.

3. Thermal Imaging: The technique of using the heat given off by an object to produce an image of it or to
locate it.

A system that may be used to detect objects in front and behind

of a barrier, such as a wall. The system includes a processor, a
radar device, a thermal image device, and a display each being
connected to the processor. The system detects objects based on
reflected signals from the radar device and objects based on
infrared light. The display shows at the same time
objects detected by either the radar device or
the thermal image device. A size of a displayed objects may be
reduced based on the distance the object is from the system. The
processor may be configured to discard objects detected by
the radar device that are located in front of the barrier.
The system may display objects located in front of the
barrier detected by the thermal image device overlaid with
objects located behind the barrier detected by the radar device.

A method for detecting objects and labeling the objects with

distances in an image includes steps of: obtaining
a thermal image from a thermal camera, an RGB image from an
RGB camera, and radar information from an mmWave radar;
adjusting the thermal image based on the RGB image to
generate an adjusted thermal image, and generating a fused
image based on the RGB image and the adjusted thermal image;
generating a second fused image based on the fused image and
the radar information; detecting objects in the images, and
generating, based on the fused image, another fused image
including bounding boxes marking the objects; and determining
motion parameters of the objects.

A method for monitoring large surface areas.

A thermal camera and an electromagnetic radar are rotated
about a vertical axis to scan the area. The area is divided into
sector-like surface elements. Monitoring criteria are established
for each of the surface elements. Movements in the surface area
being monitored are detected by the radar.
The thermal camera is used to detect objects different, in
temperature, from their surroundings. Detected objects are
located in a surface element and identified in accordance with
the monitoring criteria using at least one of the radar
and thermal camera.

[0060]Under a first scenario, a hunter approaches the vicinity of the substation on foot
proceeding from East to West along the north-side of the substation. Thermal camera
sensors equipped with video analytics and RF phased array radar sensors detect this
activity, and the defense and denial system classifies the hunter as the lowest level of
threat by which he is placed under active observation. At this stage, a security video
management system (VMS) reports the threat to security control via a VMS GUI for
observation (which may be part of the command and control GUI 60—see FIGS. 8A and
8B). Thermal camera sensors equipped with video analytics and the RF phased array radar
sensors continue reporting to an intelligent coordinator (IC) the hunter's relative position
to the substation, and once the hunter has progressed to within 300 meters of the
substation (or other predetermined distance), the defense and denial system reclassifies
the hunter as a medium threat and the security VMS reports this threat increase to security
control via the VMS GUI for observation where the security control room personnel
determine the hunter is carrying a large caliber rifle.

A human condition detection device comprises a depth image-

taking module for taking a depth image of a target area. A
millimeter-wave radar module detects breaths or heartbeats in
the target area to provide a signal. A thermal image-taking
module takes a thermal image of the target area. A processor
module determines whether a person is in the target area based
on the depth image. The processor module determines whether
there is any breath or heartbeat based on the signal if a person is
in the target area. The processor module determines whether
there is any abnormal vital sign of the person in the target area
based on the signal and the thermal image if there is a breath or
heartbeat in the target area. The processor module actuates the
warning module to provide a warning if there is an abnormal
vital sign of the person in the target area.

This dirt detection system is composed to detect dirt attached to

an outer cover of a lighting tool for a vehicle. A camera, a
LiDAR unit, and a millimeter wave radar, which detect the
surrounding environment of the vehicle, are each mounted on
the lighting tool for a vehicle. The dirt detection system is
provided with: a thermal imaging camera composed to
acquire thermal image data showing the outer cover; a lighting
tool cleaner composed to remove the dirt attached to the outer
cover; and a lighting tool cleaner control unit composed to
determine, on the basis of the thermal image data, whether the
dirt is attached to the outer cover and to drive the lighting tool
cleaner in response to the determination that the dirt is attached
to the outer cover.

The disclosure describes systems of navigating a hazardous

environment. The system includes personal protective
equipment (PPE) and computing device(s) configured to
process sensor data from the PPE, generate pose data of an
agent based on the processed sensor data, and track the pose
data as the agent moves through the hazardous environment.
The PPE may include an inertial measurement device to
generate inertial data and a radar device to generate radar data
for detecting a presence or arrangement of objects in a visually
obscured environment. The PPE may include
a thermal image capture device to generate thermal image data
for detecting and classifying thermal features of the hazardous
environment. The PPE may include one or more sensors to
detect a fiducial marker in a visually obscured environment for
identifying features in the visually obscured environment. In
these ways, the systems may more safely navigate the agent
through the hazardous environment.

US9076332B2 (Granted) A multiobjective management system for saturated traffic road
networks comprising: green wave coordination of locally
adaptive traffic control units, traffic movement optimization and
live traffic route guidance. Current traffic congestion
measurements on intersections are generated from local traffic
cameras and remote air-borne
conventional cameras and thermal sensing imaging cameras or
satellite radar such as SAR/ISAR using optical image brightness
analysis. At the first stage of traffic optimization, individual
local intersection green times are computed based on current
traffic congestion level. At the second stage optimization, the
central traffic server uses a multiobjective approach to
coordinate the current locally-optimized green times of the first
stage and create input constraints for green-way coordination of
plurality of traffic lights. The server updates dynamically
current cycle start and green times on all network-connected
traffic light controllers and also broadcasts recommended travel
times, green times and green waves to all on-line client vehicle
navigation units. Traffic server and individual client guidance
units utilize novel time-dependent modifications of an A*-type
algorithm to update current travel and recommended travel
times and to execute fastest route searches.
