ACTIVITY 2

Directions: Construct a probability distribution (if none) then solve for the mean, variance and standard deviation of
each problem.

1. Box A and Box B contain 1,2,3 and 4. Write the probability mass function of the sum when one number from
each box is taken at a time, with replacement.

2. Mr. Dimaguila, a Mathematics teacher, regularly gives a formative assessment composed of 5 multiple-choice
items. After the assessment, he used to check the probability distribution of the correct responses, and the data
is presented below:

3. In a computer laboratory, the teacher wants to find out if there is a defective computer. Supposed three
computers were tested at random, she asks one of her Computer System Servicing students to list all the
possible outcomes, such that D represents the defective computer and N represents the non-defective
computer. Let X be the random variable for the number of defective computers. Then, illustrate the probability
distribution of the random variable X.

4. The number of mobile phones sold per day at a retail store varies as shown in the given probability distribution
below. Find the expected number of mobile phones that will be sold in one day.
