What is New Music?
New music is an extension of the classical music tradition, and it
represents the cutting and creative edge of classical music. In
addition, new music can imcorporate elements of many different
musical genres, including classical, jazz, rock, world music and
other.

JOSE MACEDA (1917-2004)
Jose Maceda Born in Manila on January
17, 1917. Passed away in Manila on May
5, 2004. Works are Ugma-Ugma (1963),
a work for voice and ethnic instruments:
Agungan (1975), a piece for six gong
families; Pagsamba (1968), a musical
ritual for a circular auditorium using
several ethnic percussion instruments;
Cassetes 100 (1971), a composition for
100 cassete tape recorders; and
Ugnayan (1974), an ethnic piece played
at the same time over several radio
stations.
JONAS BAES
(1961)
Jonas Baes is a composer,
ethnomusicologist, and a cultural activist
born in Los Banos, Laguna in 1961. He is is
also a faculty of the composition and
theory department at the UP College of
Music. His major musical compositions are
"Patangis Buwaya" (2003), "Banwa"
(1996-1997), "Wala" (1997), "Aguyoy"
(2005), "Daluy" (1994), and "Basbasan"
(1983).
RAMON P.
SANTOS (1941)
Ramon P. Santos Born:February 25, 1941 82 years of
age

Lives: Pasig, Rizal, Philippine

Commonwealth Known for: Chevalier de l'Ordre des


Arts et Lettres, 1987 National Artist of the
Philippines.svg Order of National Artists of the
Philippines, 2014 Some of Santos' compositions include:
Rituwal ng Pasasalamat Likas-An Awit ni Pulau
Daragang Magayon Sandiwaan Santos was made a
Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres in 1987. He was
one of six people added to the roster of National
Artists of the Philippines in 2014.
LUCRESIA KASILAG
(1918)
Lucresia R. Kasilag Born is San Fernando,
La Union on August 31, 1918. Her
compositions was influenced by her
professors Irving Mchose and Wayne
Barlow. Kasilag's composition
demonstrated a fusion of Eastern and
Western styles in using instruments, melody,
harmony and rhythm.
JOSEFINO CHINO
TOLEDO (1959)
Josefino Chino Toledo (born on March 6, 1959
Manila, Philippines) is a composer-conductor. He is a
full professor of music composition and theory at the
University of the Philippines; executive director of
Miriam College Center for Applied Music; and
currently the music director of Metro-Manila Concert
Orchestra (MMCO) and GRUPO 20/21 a modular
music ensemble. Toledo’s music has been described
as "pure and powerful", and has been cited for its
fusion of contemporary western language and
Southeast Asian aesthetics.

FRANCISCO P.
FELICIANO (1942)
Fransisco P. Feliciano
Born on February 19, 1942 in Morong, Rizal.
Passed away on September 19, 2014.
Musical Director of the movie Ang Bukas ay
Atin and My Fair Lady.
Feliciano composed more than 30 major
works, including the musical dramas Sikhau sa
Kabila ng Paalam, Ashen Wing, and La Loba
Negra (1984). He also wrote music for the
orchestra such as Prelude and Toccata (1973),
Fragments (1976), Life of Martime Filipino Hero
Jose Abad Santos, and the Ballet yerma (1982)
JERRY DADAP (1935)
Jerry Dadap
- was the first Filipino composer who had
given a concert featuring only his works
at the famous Carnegie Recital Hall.

He was born on:


November 5, 1935
Hinunangan, Southern Leyte
- He was born to his mother's musical
clan, to the best trombone player, Castor
Amber who is his uncle, and his elder
sister as his actual music trainer.
MANUEL PEREZ
MARAMBA (1936)
Fr. Manuel Perez Maramba, OSB
Born July 4, 1936 in Pangasinan.
He has composed operas like
Aba!, Sto. Niño , La Naval and
Lord Takayama Ukon. His other
major compositions are the
music for Awakening which was
commissioned by Ballet
Philippines and music for
Philippine Ballet Theaster's
production of Seven Mansions.
