Directions: Fill in each part of the App Lesson with your own original ideas.

samples provided on Moodle. Provide 3 to 4 apps/steps for students to complete along with a

creative title, helpful description, and relevant SC teaching standards. There must be one app

per step.

Title: Learning to Read for Early Childhood Students

Relevant SC Standards:

 Standard 1.1 Follow words from left to right, top to bottom, and front to back.

 Standard 1.4 Recognize and name all upper- and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

 Standard 2.1 Recognize and produce rhyming words.

 Standard 8.1 With guidance and support, read or listen closely to:

a. describes characters and their actions;

b. compares characters’ experiences to those of the reader;

c. describe setting;

d. identifies the problem and solution; and

e. identifies the cause of an event.

Description: This app will help promote participation and enjoyment of learning to read,

pronounce, and listen to different words presented in a story.


Instructional Objective: Students will be more likely to engage with reading material that could

be followed along with audio, pictures, and highlighted words. They will also be able to read

individually after mastering each of the following three steps and applications.

Step 1: Students will navigate to Starfall and review both icons titled: It’s Fun to Read and ABC

Rhymes. There they will read stories and be given the opportunity to press an audio button to

read along with. The second icon will introduce stories or poetry that introduce the idea of

rhyming.

Step 2: Teachers will create a white board with sight words and short stories and help

demonstrate characters, setting, cause of event, and solution. This will guide students to identify

who, what, when, and where when reading independently.

Step 3: Students will demonstrate reading comprehension by reading a story and answering

questions about the setting, characters, and event about a book provided to the class. Students

will record their answers through a video that will be uploaded to ClassDojo under the Storytime

tab and submit for grading.
