Hello and welcome to my tutorial about painting a Mordor Orc spearman.

As you know from my previous tutorials, before I start painting my models I take a picture in the
same light environement which I will later use for the final photos, and I try to copy the reflections
and shadows that are naturally appearing in these photos.
This time I took simplier photos with my phone and I was more relaxed when it came to copying
the reflections from it, it’s just an orc after all.

I wasn’t actually planning to make a tutorial about painting this model

and that’s why in this step many details are already painted.
Vallejo: Sky
The chainmail was at first painted fully with Dark Grey (of course I was Grey
painting just the rings) and then I highlighted them almost entirely with London
Grey Paint. After that, I decided that the square details on his back would be
made from black leather, so I painted with Black Grey all the places where Vallejo:
light reflects on them in the reference photo. Then, I did the same thing on his London
boots and the black cloth. Now the steel elements of the armor are fully Grey
painted with Black Grey, then I painted on them bright areas with Light Grey,
and then the brightest reflections with Sky Grey. All of this I tried to reproduce
from the reference photo, but I was pretty relaxed when it came to the
accuracy of my copy. Then, I painted reflections on the green cloth with
Reflective Green and after that I painted areas around them with mix Gr1.

Now I decided that the green clothes should be a bit brighter, so I mixed
Medium Olive with Reflective Green creating a much brighter, but not too
saturated green mixture. Vallejo:

After that, I took London Grey and painted with it new lines of color on the
sides of the areas painted previously with Light Grey. Then, I added a few
additional reflections below and on the sides of the main reflections on the Mix Gr2:
armor. After that, I highlghted all of the black clothes with Dark Grey paint, and Medium Olive
once again I tried to replicate the reflections from the reference photo. 90% +

In the previous step, I also painted his legs and hands. The first layer of paint Green 10%
is Hull Red but you can simply add black paint to Dark Fleshtone and have the
same effect, then I highlighted them with pure Dark Fleshtone, and in the end
I painted the brightest places with mix S1.

Now I highlighted his boots and black clothings with London Grey paint. After
that I painted the wooden handle of the spear with the mix of Flat Brown and
black paint, and after that I painted stripes on its surface with Burnt Umber
paint.
There was no magic trick to making those stripes, but it went easier and
quicker then you probably expect, because I didn’t need to be precise at all.
The more irregular those stripes are, the more natural they look.
After that I also painted the leather strap on his weist with The mix of Flat
Brown and Black paint and painted the buckle with London, and then Light
Grey paint.
In the end I highlighted the chainmail with the Light Grey paint.

Now as you can see, the front of his helmet is already painted, and that’s
because I painted it in a video tutorial which you can find by following the tag
„Lord of the Ring” on my patreon, checking out the post below this one, or just Vallejo: Sky

visiting my YouTube channel.
Other than that, now you can see that I painted the green cloth below the
helmet. I painted those places only with mix Gr2 because at that moment I
wanted to create an easily visible sketch with just the brightest and the Vallejo:
Black Grey
darkest colors. After that, I highlighted the brightest spots on the black leather
squares on his back with London Grey paint, and then I painted the brightest
reflection on the chainmail with Sky Grey paint.
On the other side of the helmet, I just marked the brightest reflection with Light Vallejo: Light

Now just like in the previous step, I painted new layers with Reflective Green
paint on the sides of the layers previously painted with mix Gr2.
Then, I painted with London Grey new layers of colors on the sides of the Vallejo:

After that, I highlighted the structure of the wood on the spear with Beige
Brown paint.
The blade of the spear is painted in the same order as the rest of the steel Vallejo: White
elements on this model, but I used White Grey as the brightest color on the Grey
edges.

Now I painted the darkest layers of colors on the green clothes with mix Gr1
and then I painted new, brightest reflections on the helmet with Sky Grey
Vallejo: Burnt

The leather strap on his waist is highlighted with the same color as the spear,
so Burnt Umber and then Beige Brown.

In this step I dilluted black paint a lot, took a small amount on my brush and
pained tiny, transparent stripes on the edges of the areas painted with mix Gr1
on the green clothes and those painted with Black Grey on black clothes.
Thanks to that, I created smooth color transitions between them and the black
basecolor.
After that, I made a few thin layers of glazes on the handle of the spear around
the hands in order to make them darker in there. Thanks to this step, the
hands are more visible and the wood looks more interesting.

Now I started creating smooth transitions between the layers of colors on

black and steel elements. In order to do that, I took the color from the brighter
layer (in this step it’s London Grey) and added to it a very small amount of Vallejo:
darker color, that is suppoused to make it just a little bit darker. Reflective
Green
Then, with such mixture I painted many tiny stripes on the borders of the
layers painted with London Grey paint. You can see this process in each of my
video tutorials but if you haven’t seen them yet, I especially recommand
watchich my tutorial about painting this Orc’s helmet. Then, I made smooth
color transitions
between the layers painted with the mix Gr1 and Reflective Green in the same
way.

Now, same way as in the previous step, I created smooth color transitions
between London Grey and Light Grey layers, and then between Reflective

In the end, I also created smooth color transitions between the layers on his 90% +
hands and his legs. Reflective

Vallejo Mecha:
Dark Rust
Wash

Vallejo Mecha:
Rust Texture
(Matt)

In this step, I spent a lot of time creating thin layers of rusty glazes over some
parts of the helmet using Dark Rust Wash paint from Vallejo Mecha
Weathering.
You can also simply use brown paints, but for a good rust effect they should
have reddish, orange-brown tonations in them.
It’s really hard to make a nice looking, reflective NMM and rust on the armor
at the same time, and that’s why I painted with this wasch just some parts of
the elements, and even if this is not very realistic, I will leave it like this,
because I like how it looks like.
In the end, I added a few more washes in the darkest shadows of the armor with Rust Texture (Matt)
from Vallejo, and then I glued my Orc to his base.
Now I have two Orcs painted with NMM technique and one with TMM, and I think that for the rest of
the orcs I will stick to NMM technique.
On my Youtube channel, you can find tutorials about painting the orc on his right, and the armor of
the Orc on the left. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and will try out my techniques on your miniatures.
