RENTON SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 403 Renton, Washington RESOLUTION NO. 659 WHEREAS, the voters of the Renton School District No. 403, on September 15, 1970, voted general obligation bonds of $2,780,000 to build the Apollo Middle School and $225,000 to equip said building, with certain of these funds having been expended to complete the design and bid the contracts for this school, and WHEREAS, the economy and birthrate of the Renton School District has been drastically affected in recent years, with the subsequent effect that the rapid enrollment growth experienced in the past decade has leveled off, with some actual decline, thus providing enrollment projections that seriously question the immediate need for the Apollo Middle School, and WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of Renton School District No. 403 recognizes the difficulties of financing the operating costs of the Apollo Middle School if it were completed inasmuch as levy failures in 1971 and 1972 resulted in a loss of general fund monies and the continued closure of Lindbergh High School, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That at this time the Board of Directors on February 17, 1972, mot accept the bids for aghis.project-and usfunthenatheyathesbelen unexpended funds and “all interest accruing as a result of investments, shall be set “aside in a separate fund for later construction of this school. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That if, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, it is found unnecessary to construct _ the Apollo Middle School, the disposition of the monies shall be submitted to the voters of the Renton School District for such action as the Board may deen necessary. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That to every extent possible, the site developments be continued so as to meet the environmental and recreational objectives of this project without the use of the above funds. ADOPTED at the regular meeting of the Board of Directors held on February 17, 1972.
