    This study examined the prevalence of dysbaric osteonecrosis (DON) among artisanal diving fishermen in Yucatan, Mexico. Researchers conducted MRI scans of the hips and shoulders of 100 fishermen and found evidence of DON in 24% of hips and 12% of shoulders. DON was associated with increased age and longer diving experience. The high prevalence of DON in this population highlights the risks of repetitive breath-hold diving without decompression stops.
