Festival (WAF) is an annual event held in Barcelona organ ised by EMAP, a media group that runs other festivals, including the World Retai l Congress and Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival, as well as publi shes various journals, including within the field of architecture the Architectu ral Review, and the Architects' Journal. The inaugural WAF was hold on 22-24 Oct ober 2008. The 2010 festival takes place on 3-5 November. The "Building of the Y ear" award and 17 category awards are selected from shortlisted entries which ar e presented to the jury during the festival. On the final day the 17 category winners again h ad to present the work, competing against each other to win the first architectu ral Prix de Barcelona. The international judging panel, composed of architects, allied professionals, clients and architecture critics, was headed by Norman Fos ter.[2] The 2010 awards attracted more than 500 entries from 61 countries.
