THINKING OF PERSONIFICATIONS
When you learn words that describe character traits, it can be helpful to think of someone (or
something) who personifies, or illustrates, that trait. This personification will act as a mental
reference, which will help you to better retain the vocabulary item.
Practice. Choose a musician, song, a famous person, film, or TV show that personifies each
character trait. Write the names in the boxes below. Explain each choice.

Character Trait Personification

I find jazz music repetitive because all I hear are the same sounds
repetitive
repeat over and over.

Jack's song annoying me because the melody of the song is very similar to
annoying other songs.

The songs are sentimental that made me feel boring because it's not
boring my hobby.

depressing Commercial songs really depressing because it's easy to remember and
also easy to forget

loud I feel uncomfortable listening to rock concert because it's really loud.

offensive I think wap is a non-children's song because it's offensive.

silly I find "Dom dom" song is silly because its lyrics isn't suitable for student.

weird I think MCK' style is weird because he has long brown hair make me feel
scared.
I find "Ung qua chung" is a sentimental song because the melody is overly
sentimental romantic.

In my opinion, "Dat nuoc tron niem vui" is a serious song because its lyrics
serious
isn't exciting.

I find "Dien May Xanh" is a commercial song because it raises money for
commercial their brand.

dated I think the HKT band is dated because its melody is not up-to-date.

Idea. Try personifying new adjectives and nouns you learn in later units.

participles, words are similar but their usage differs.
Practice. Look at the present and past participles in the boxes below. Choose five that you
would like to learn well. Write an example sentence for each word in its present and past
