AMAZON

Amazon was founded in 1994 by Jeff Bezos. His online marketplace for books has
grown into the largest Internet-based retailer in the world, with more than 304 million
customer accounts.
It all began when Bezos opened his first online bookshop from his garage in Bellevue,
Washington. In a short time, the company began to build warehouses and purchase
more assets and in 1997, Amazon went public with a valuation of $300 million at $1.96
per share. Three years later, Amazon moved into a new area of business as it began to
allow third-party sellers to move merchandise through the site. And in 2005, Bezos
announced Prime, a customer loyalty programme that offered free delivery on any
order for two days, along with other benefits for only $79 per year. With Amazon’s
growing success, the brand soon became famous around the world.
Amazon was originally going to be called Cadabra or Relentless, but Bezos finally made
the decision to name the company Amazon, which is the largest river in the world. He
decided to do this because he believed it would give the company the advantage of
being listed higher in alphabetized lists. And something that makes Amazon a special
brand is the development of Alexa, an in-home virtual assistant that Amazon has
recently linked to numerous smart home devices.
It all started in Bezos' garage and now, Amazon is considered one of the most popular
and successful online shops in the world, providing customers a list of more than 12
million products.
