2. Course Details

The course introduces students to the basic concepts and doctrines of management of
Intellectual assets, their valuation strategies, including concepts of market, valuation methods and
approaches . Class activities allow for analysis of issues raised for IPRs by specialized work such as
systematic understanding of software, architecture and databases, as well as new technologies that
facilitate valuations . Upon completion of this course, students will understand the foundational
principles of IP valuation and the underlying concepts , and be able to apply this knowledge to assess
ongoing asset creations with regard to the development of IPs and information gathering and
dissemination.
2a. Course Objective: The overall objective of the Course is as follows:
1. Develop understanding of key valuation concepts and its importance.
2. Focus on broad and contemporary issues and how it is tackled by various processes and role of
IPR laws.
3. Describe the role of IP Valuers with respect to valuations and management of IP assets.
4. Comprehend the importance of IP valuations and the commercial behavior of an enterprise.

2b. Learning Outcomes: on successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
1. Understand the various underlying concepts of valuation such as cost approach, market
approach etc.
2. Recognize the contemporary legal issues and its influence on valuation of IP assets.
3. Analyse the development and strategies of IP Valuation methods and nuances in IP
management.
4. Understand the concept of commercialization of IP assets, its market behavior.

2e. Assignment:
The students will be given three assignments. The assignment comprises of Competition Related
Situational Analysis, Case study discussions and quiz . The students must submit their assignment
within designated time. Late submission will lead to proportionate deduction of marks awarded for the
assignment component at the end of the semester.
2f. Prerequisites to learning- The students should have the basic understanding of the concept of
hierarchy of courts, rights and property.
